Canon Battery Charger CG-800

The battery that comes standard with almost any camcorder usually doesn't last very long. The solution is to get an extra battery, preferably with extended life. The problem, of course, is that it takes a long time to charge those puppies. You can always have a couple ready to go in the morning, but if you are recording all day you'll want to charge up your spare while the other is in use. That's where this battery charger comes in handy. I bought it for use with my Canon VIXIA HF10 and my HFS10 , and it works great. As others have noted it charges your batteries a lot more quickly than if they were plugged in to the camcorder - plus it saves some wear and tear on the adapter plug for your camcorder. Best of all, this is very compact. It fits in a little side pocket of my camcorder case and leaves room to spare. The plug flips in and out for easy storage. If you plan to get a lot of use out of your Vixia camcorder, this is really a must-have accessory. Highly recommended.

So up until this point, I've exclusively been using the charger that came with the camera since I bought it in 2011. You know the drill: uncover the hole, plug it in, make sure the two pieces are firmly connected, plug it into the wall, set your camera out somewhere and charge. I frequently worried about my cat jumping on the cable or chewing on it. And honestly the whole thing was kind of awkward for me. So needless to say, a charger that allows me to leave my camera safely in its bag, free of cables and with a light that tells me quite clearly when it's done charging (which doesn't take long), I love! Did I mention that you can charge and shoot at the same time? Yes, please! Pros Uses wall outlet Discrete design allows you to plug it into the lower outlet and still utilize the top one Light tells you when it's charging and another color for when it's done Can charge your extra battery here while filming on the primary battery, and vice versa Cons This will take up a little more space on your wall, or power strip than a standard plug You do need an outlet (but that's true of the standard charger as well) Not sure what else to say about it other than I'm already loving this!

I lost my battery charger and I needed it for a travel destination so I bought this. It works just like my original and I haven’t had any issues.

Great charger, but on the expensive side. Even though they are always more expensive, I always stick to the Canon brand for my Canon equipment when it comes to batteries, chargers and lenses. Heard too many horror stories about other batteries and chargers and their quality. This is a small and light weight product but the build quality is solid. Perfect to travel with as well. Bottom line, no complaints. Well, Canon could offer these things a little cheaper.

The CG-800 battery charger is an excellent accessory. I use this to charge my batteries for my VIXIA HF200. The HF200 ships with a BP-809 battery pack, which is not really enough to record long events, therefore most people will pick up another battery, probably a BP-819 or a BP-827. This is where this charger comes in handy because it allows you to charge one battery while using the other. Otherwise you'd have to stop using the camera, find the AC adapter, charge one battery, wait, then charge the other. Clearly not the idea with small hand held cameras like the HF200. The charger itself is small and light and weighs just 2.8 ounces. It also has folding power plugs, which are a great feature. It has two LEDs one which is orange which is lit while charging and and another that is green and lights when the battery is fully charged. The only drawback to this thing is the price, but you will be giving this accessory a lot of use if you have two or more batteries. This charger will be in your camera bag, guaranteed.

The battery charger is very useful, especially if you're in a hurry. I bought the Canon BP-819 battery and it took about 2 hours to charge which is quicker than using the camcorder to charge. There are only 2 issues that I have with the charger. 1. It gets really hot, so if you have children around becareful. 2. I think it is pricey for this charger. Wish Canon would include it with the camcorder but that is where Canon gets you to buy their product. Overall, good product. If you plan to be recording and you need a quick charge, this will be helpful.
