I'm debating between this (compact) saw and the standard 20v recip saw. How much would 100 less spm affect the performance? Advice appreciated!

This saw has the 20 volt power and !00 fewer saw blade strokes will make little or no difference. I cut 6” to 8” thick tree limbs. As long as the blade is sharp and in good condition, I dare you to get less cutting time doing the same with other saws with 100 more rpm’s (?) than this saw. Hey, it’s a DeWalt!

What blades are compatible? i see dw4856, dw4890, dw4892 and dw4898 etc. sorry for the dumb question. i am a complete newbie.

how much is a battery?

You can use either DCB200 (3.0 Ah) or DCB204 (4.0 Ah) Batteries with this saw. The batteries are between $99 to $119 for a 2-pack currently. If you do not already have the saw, a kit with battery/charger included with purchase may be your best option. Take a look at Models DCS380M1 or DCS380P1 for full kits.

what battery and charger do I need to make this brick run?

Any of the 20 volt batteries will work. I bought 2 5 amp batteries for it. But it will work with the 1.5 ones as well. Great sawzall. Any of the dewalt 20v chargers will work.
