are these dishwasher safe?

Some plastic Tupperware I've had don't start having melting spots / getting white spots until I've run them in the dishwasher multiple times on the bottom rack so I'd avoid putting plastics on the bottom rack...

Will those open if placed sideways?

No. No matter how you place them on your shelves, they have to be taken out so all four tabs can be opened.
