The additional instructions provided by a reviewer are very helpful indeed - they should be added to the product description and packaging instructions. A fine crotchet hook also works (instead of tweezers). However, as a reviewer notes, this device is a help but its not 'automatic' and it still requires good eyesight and dexterity. I am surprised (given a possibly extensive market, including younger children in schools ) that a manufacturer hasn't yet come up with an electronic (rechargeable) needle positioner and thread 'pusher' that really is automatic. And at a reasonable price (this Singer one is towards top of price bracket likely to market well I think).

This device does work, but it takes a little effort to get it to work We've worked out that you have to GRAB THE LOOP, and not the end of the thread. This doesn't magically thread, but it starts it for you, so 4 stars all-round. IT HELPS, and has nice features. The magnetic base is brilliant when you accidentally drop your needle. The thread cutter does work, and is a good flat cut. Don't worry, I do actually recommend this. Sort of threads. Cuts your thread. Picks up dropped needles. Great gift for an older sewer who eyes ain't what they were! If you can get elsewhere cheaper, even better, bit it does assist
