Designed to make complex topics easily accessible to medical students and anyone interested in anatomy and movement, The Concise Book of Muscles is a quick, information-packed, and user-friendly guide to this rapidly-growing and important field. Review: Wonderful. - This is great! I have a medical condition that has taught me more than I ever wanted to know about my muscles but not in a particularly accurate way. I decided it was time to try to put names to what I'm feeling and this book will allow me to do just that, as close as I can expect without a medical education anyway. Very pleased with it, and maybe it will even add to my healing. It gives just the right amount of knowledge--not overly detailed but definitely substantial enough to be very educational. Next time I see my massage therapist I will see if I can correlate what I've learned in the book to the muscles I feel. Review: This is a great book. Not heavy at all to carry around - This is a great book. Not heavy at all to carry around, but has a lot of detail. Very well organized and the illustrations are easy to understand. Broken down muscle by muscle with a lot of detail. Helpful for anyone interested in learning about muscles.

Amazing
I'm a personal trainer but didn't major in exercise science. This book has helped me tremendously. I knew only about the major muscle groups but didn't understand the purpose of their origins and insertions. Now when I train clients I teach them how to concentrate on which bones they need to move in order to flex the desired muscle.

I love this book
I love this book, but I love the first edition so much more. Mainly due to the lay out of the information was better in the 1st edition. Also, the pages are higher quality than this edition. But the information written is sooo great!

Excellent, clear, concise
This book is precisely (and more than) what it says it is; a concise book of muscles. The images are clear, the explanations are concise and the references are just as one might expect from an excellent clinical anatomist such as John Sharkey. In this work Sharkey has also attempted to step into the 21st Century and take the student, the lay reader and the professional educator or practitioners safely towards navigating what the leading edge of scientific enquiry is beginning to reveal: that is the evolving (expanding) significance of both connective tissues and their architectural organisation in the human body. (Reference Biotensegrity Chapter 2). Through clear text and illustration (from clinical practice and in the dissection laboratory) Sharkey points the reader gently in the direction of a path I suspect we will all have to embrace in the coming decades, in order to work optimally with the whole human bodies that walk into our practices, clinics, gyms, athletic environments or classrooms. It is a brave step and an incremental one, that deserves recognition for its contribution and excellent, clear, full colour content. Sharkey honours Jarmey's work, fully respects the topological map of classical education and appropriately includes the observable implications from the lab that are not always understood from many anatomy books. As director of a Yoga Teacher Training school and teacher of manual modalities, this book is at the top of the required reading list in any of my classes. It proves most helpful in private practice to show to clients and quite brilliant for students to begin to see how relationships work between muscles and in application, through the thumbprint illustrations that sit alongside much of the text. Highly recommended.
