Authoritative, accessible, and completely up to date, The Oxford Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms is an invaluable guide for anyone wanting to build their vocabulary and improve their writing skills. Over 140,000 alternative and opposite words are given with the closest, most frequently used synonyms listed first; in addition, thousands of real-life examples of usage from the Oxford English Corpus enable the reader to pinpoint the relevant word quickly and easily. Also included is a useful center section designed to improve your knowledge of the language, consisting of: a commonly confused words supplement that explains the crucial differences between similar words that are often mixed up; and a Wordfinder section that offers a selection of thematic lists - from chemical elements and clothing to phobias and flowers. Review: Great book - Very complete and will come in handy. Review: Fun and Helpful. - I'm not writing a novel or anything to be published; but, I love learning to express myself in various ways. I write things for my children--- poems, letters, journaling, and find I can be redundant and what I am writing doesn't express my intent or intensity. This book is a helpful tool and I just enjoy learning how to use words in various ways.

Amazon sent to wrong address.
Well, I guess I now own a Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms. I ordered 2 books, billed to me but to be sent to my son who is in a correctional facility. He has no access to a computer but is taking college courses. I order the books and send them to him. One book won't be released until 12/4 - I checked the shipping addressed which is the correctional facility so he should get it. This other book is still sitting here in its package, unopened. The facility is strict on ordering - it has to be in the company's packaging and clearly marked. I can't go to a store, buy a book and send it to him. This means I can't run a label over it, throw it in the mail box and think he's going to get it - he's not. The facility will return it to me (I'm very good at writing and don't need this). To send it back to Amazon, it would cost me $5.99 although I have Prime and shipping outbound is free. What these companies don't understand is a correctional facility is prison. Each State has a different set of rules as to mail. He was in another state - I could send him a birthday card. In this state, I can send a birthday card BUT it has to be in a white envelope or it gets returned to me. Why color matters, I don't know. He is fortunate to be in a facility where he can work on his degree but there are things that don't fall on taxpayers (nor should they). I pay for books, pads, pens, pencils, notebooks, an extra pair of socks, underwear, a snack, coffee, anything medical - it's not a country club nor do I expect it to be. He gets the basics from the state - 3 squares, a roof, one pair of sneakers, a blanket & pillow and a shower. Any ''extras'' - a newspaper, magazine, a radio , etc. (again, each facility has a list of items) are picked up by family/friends. Being retired, I guess I'll be reading about synonyms - I can use the 5.99 elsewhere.

A good resource for “…what’s a better word for ..”
I am in retirement and joined a writers group to learn to put my memoir together. At retirement age the thought processes are there however somethings can be better said. ( Better said!! Does that sound right?) This book accompanies my hours at the computer in both writing ( including the ever increasing rewriting) and my emails and occasional texts. So this book for me is an investment.

Super
En plus de remplir sa fonction de dictionnaire des synonymes et antonymes, une liste de mots souvent confondus et la section "wordfinder" peuvent se révéler très intéressantes. Outils parfait pour mes études d'anglais
