Is the connection speed 40gbps when connecting to thunderbolt 3 on a late 2018 macbook pro or 10gbps?

Inside this housing is a 2.5" laptop-style HDD, with a transfer rate of 135MB/s. Also, the interface is actually USB-C, which is "Thunderbolt 3-compatible" but is not Thunderbolt 3. What this means is that USB-C drives can be connected to Thunderbolt 3 ports and they work (as part of the TB3 spec). All of that said, the drive itself is the limiting factor in the transfer rate. Many manufactures like to put out the "5GB Transfer" funny business in their specs, but they are really only referring to what the port or cable is "capable" of, however the actual hard drive determines how fast it can read and write regardless of connection used. In fact, you will get the same performance out of this particular drive whether connecting to a USB 3.0, USB-C, or Thunderbolt 3 port as all are more than capable of handling the 135MB/s that the drive can put out.

My 2013 imac i7 connected to this drive with a usbc to thunderbolt cable doesn't see the drive. what's up?

It seems you are using the Apple Thunderbolt Adapter or similar, yes? Those will NOT work with this drive, since the port on the drive is NOT Thunderbolt 3. The interface is actually USB-C, which can be connected to/is compatible with a Thunderbolt 3 computer port, but does not work with a Thunderbolt converter since it's not an actual Thunderbolt 3 port. Any drive that says "USB-C (Thunderbolt 3-compatible)" is a USB-C drive.

Replaced my older external HDD that required external power (WD MyBook 1TB) with this portable 4TB drive. Though it is technically ready for Mac (because unlike Windows, Mac can read both formats) I did go ahead and format to APFS because this drive will be used exclusively with Mac(s) to stream my personal media files. MUCH faster than my previous drive and I feel pretty confident about the rugged build, while not spending high SSD prices. Great value for the 4TB capacity.

I've had a WD hard drive that has been around with me for 3/4 years. Out of a sudden while working on the laptop for a few days straight, suddenly I noticed it stopped being recognized & tried to take it to a data recovery company, but no luck. That's when I got this hard drive. So far it hasn't crashed, or suddenly ejected. It is being recognized & has been working fine so far. If there are any changes, I will update. The rugged-ness & sturdiness of the hard drive is also really good.

Franchement rien a dire pour ce disque dur. il marche vraiment bien capacité de 5To. vitesse assez rapide. Mais surtout vraiment incassable. Je l'ai jeté volontairement au sol, assez violemment, et effectivement il est costaud. Il est juste un peu grand mais franchement ca passe tous de même dans une pochette ordi, tranquille donc pas de problème pour ma part. Je recommande de vive voix !!!!

Mi computadora no detecta el dico y tampoco la de mi hija que puedo hacer el producto es bueno pero me toco ir a conectarlo a una mac para que mi computadora lo detectara y despues de conectarlo en una mac a hora si funciona muy bien por lo demas llego bien y en buen estado
