Great teaching/learning set! Not a toy. it cannot withstand being handled carelessly.
I think they are slightly fragile. They are not toys, and cannot withstand that type of use, for sure. But! As a learning/teaching aid, these things are super cool! They are see through and have an opening, with plug, to fill each shape with water, and demonstrate the concept of volume! I liked them as an introduction into shapes, and when I got them, I saw that they were to teach all about volume too! By far, one of the coolest little sets to have in your classroom/homeschool. They could stand to be a little more sturdy, and durable. I'm afraid to drop them. Also, should come with a graduated cylinder, for filing the shapes, and precise measuring. Needed em for science anyway, so I had to grab a pack of those.

Excellent hands-on manipulative
This is a perfect hands-on manipulative if you teach any element of geometry. Sometimes it helps students to see exactly what you're referring to in 3D. 1/1/12: I'm editing my review now that I've used these more in my class. Since I teach a state testing grade, my students have to know how to do geometry on paper and not just by using manipulatives. This product really helps me bridge that gap. I introduce the concept with these then I move on to counting edges and faces, etc on paper. When my students struggle with the paper portion of it, we go back to these and I let them hold it while counting. Then we refer back to the paper. These have been a life saver in my small groups. I'm not sure if the product description says it, but these have small clear holes that are plugged. The little plugs fall out very easily (con), but the whole point of the holes is to use them to fill and teach volume (pro!). When I first bought these, I intended to use them only for faces, edges, vertices. Now I intend to use them to teach volume, too. I can't say enough good about Learning Resources ans their products.

Great product--fragile, but why wouldn't they be?
These are great. I've read people reviewing saying that theirs were falling apart out of the box and all I can think is they got a defective product. I bought two boxes and all of the shapes are fine. Most of the shapes have three pieces: the small, removable piece covering a hole (for filling) and then the removable side piece (for easier filling and cleaning) and finally the rest of the shape. They are all solid, but you are not paying for shatter resistant pieces of acrylic. This item would cost much more if you were. They are simply shapes made of thin, but not too thin Plexiglas. Obviously, if they are in cold conditions for a while the plastic will deteriorate in strength and may crumple, but otherwise these are sturdy enough.

Shapes are asymetrical and measurements aren't precise
I'm an artist and bought these to practice drawing 3D shapes in different orientations. They are ideal for that purpose. I love the colors and that I can see through them. The plastic seems durable and they are stable on flat surfaces. I recognize these are for kids but if I cared more about precision, I would send them back. A handful of the shapes such as the large cube, pentagonal prism, and triangular prism taper slightly by a few millimeters from end to end. The cube is just barely noticeable, but I noticed the prism's tapering when I removed it from the box and I had to measure to be sure. This is more of a visual problem when you stack certain shapes, because one end will be flush with another shape, while the other end will not be, such that the edges stick out. Additionally, the stated measurements are rounded up because several of the shapes are slightly smaller than they are supposed to be. Other shapes are just fine. I got them for a deal so I don't mind these flaws. My use doesn't require precision and they are light and colorful, so I'm keeping them. If you care more than I do, be aware that the manufacturing is inconsistent.

Tactile learning
My children loves this resource. Makes learning 3D shapes easier with this concrete sample. Be careful though, this is delicate, can crack easily when it accidentally falls to the floor.

Falls apart easily
My kids love these shapes because they are bright, see through, and light up under an led light (great for light tables). I initially ordered these because teaching kids 3D objects using book pictures is difficult to differentiate between 2D when learning for the first time. It helped reinforce my son’s kindergarten knowledge and my autistic daughter visually understood better seeing these shapes. These shapes help to reinforce that a cube is very different from a square and helped them both later when I quizzed them on 2D vs3D using boom cards online. The con: the plastic bottoms fall off easily even when I’m holding them and there’s tiny plastic circles that pop off easily and lose quickly. Why these are not sealed up- I have no idea???!!! Maybe to show you can put stuff into a 3D object versus 2D. I bring generous to reason what is clearly a design flaw and choking hazard if you have children in the house of different ages that are in the mouthing stage. They feel so flimsy and if they were sturdy- would have been fun additions to our magna tiles, but they just even slightly fall off boom! The bottom has popped off! Wooden ones would have been better, but I liked these bright colors like the kids.

Great for kids education
I was facing difficulty in educating my little ones in understanding edges, faces and vertices of 3D shapes. This simplified my work.

Great quality
Great quality shapes. My son loves to build with them as we name each shape. These have helped him better identify different shapes in preparation for school.
