She gets into character and gives each pet their own voice, and loves all the jokes pertaining to grammer. She was reading at this level before kindergarten started. The 2nd book will be a Christmas present & we can't wait for the 3rd!

This is a funny and clever book that any kid will like
This is a funny and clever book that any kid will like. It makes me and my son laugh out loud-especially with the play on words that sound alike and yet mean different things. Who knew learning to read could be so fun?

Haggis and Tank's Latest Adventure Will Appeal to Beginning Readers ...
Jessica Young’s “Haggis and Tank Unleashed: Digging for Dinos” is a book that may appeal to children who are just learning to read. Both the characters’ personalities and their adventures incorporate elements that children find interesting and think are humorous. Filled with details, James Burks’ cartoon-like illustrations add visual interest to the story; the pictures are cute and the vivid colors, eye-catching. Haggis, a Scottish Terrier, and his friend Tank, a Great Dane, set out on a dinosaur hunt. The discovery of huge footprints and, subsequently, three dinosaur eggs form the basis for their adventure. Targeted at readers in 1st and 2nd grades, "Digging for Dinos" uses simple, short sentences. Further, the use of "easy" words, most having no more than two syllables, are factors that help keep beginning readers from becoming frustrated. Clever word play introduces the concept of homophones; the banter back-and-forth between Haggis and Tank reinforces the different meanings of the word pairs. One exchange is reminiscent of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First” classic. The dialog between the two characters is contained in “balloons” similar to those in comic strips. Because the conversational aspects of “Digging for Dinos” are more complicated than many beginning readers may be prepared to deal with, this book is ideal for reading along with the child. Doing so allows the child to read the narrative and the adult to speak the dialog. This also helps the child, who may be unfamiliar with comics, understand that format and be able to read the book on their own later. Scholastic Branches series gives readers of any level fun-to-read books of appropriate difficulty. The Haggis and Tank books are exactly what I was seeking to share with my grandson who is just learning to read. It allows him to read while still having Grandma read to him. I have no doubt we will be reading “Haggis and Tank Unleashed: “Digging for Dinos” multiple times.

Missing pages/repeat pages
I bought this book for my 4.5yo. He was very excited about it. When we got to page 42 it skipped right to page 59. At the end of the book it again repeated pages 59-74. We are left with a cliff hanger of what happens between pages 42-59 lol It's a cute book very disappointed we didnt get the whole story.
