reliable and (very) easy to use
We purchased one of these for my elderly aunt about 9 months ago. We previously had one of those services with a monthly charge. I didn't need anyone to answer her distress call. What I wanted was something that would dial my cell phone with the push of a button and would allow her to talk to me without any problems. It had to be durable, reliable and (very) easy to use. Pros: Very sturdy - not a piece of junk. It's built to last a long time Well designed. The base (Big part) has its own battery charger for the base batteries (back up) and a spare battery for the personal unit. It tells you when the battery for the personal unit has a low battery. The personal unit has a speaker and a microphone. In use, all communication is through the small personal unit on the person. In other words, there's no listening to and yelling at some box in another room. It can be easily programmed to ring multiple phone numbers in order,and/or 911. It stops when someone answers and they press 5. This is a solution to the problem of getting an answering machine rather than a person. It generally has good clarity of sound - both ways. The limitation is the quality of your cell phone and the connection. The "panic button" is large and easy to push. It does take a good solid push to activate it. We've never had an accidental activation due to it hitting something. It can be worn as around the neck or on the wrist. Cons: The personal unit is a little bulky. It's about the size of a fat matchbox with two appendages sticking out of the top. These are the antennae and the battery access. My aunt finds it too bulky to wear around the neck. She uses it on her arm. The wrist band that holds the personal unit is loose. It doesn't grip the personal unit adequately. We put a piece of tape on it. There is a lag in communication - generally a few seconds - after answering it on the cell phone. It kicks in after about 5 seconds. Not really a big deal. After answering the panic call on the cell phone, it intrudes with a message to "push number five" in order to confirm that the answerer is not an answering machine. This message could be shorter. Not really a big deal. So, if you're tired of paying for that monthly service, this is the solution if you ask me. I think the technology is now there to make the personal unit smaller. They should do that. But it's a winner.

Looks a bit cheap but works AMAZINGLY well.
This works really well. I am actually surprised by the great sound quality on both ends of the call when using the pendant to make an emergency call. The unit comes with two rechargeable batteries, one of which stays in the base station, charging, while the other powers the pendant. Once the pendant battery dies simply switch the one in the base with the one in the pendant and you're good. No need to buy new batteries or find time to plug the pendant in to charge it. Physical switches on the back of the unit allow you tell it to call 911 only, call your friends list and then if no-one answers call 911, or ONLY call your friends list (which is really important of our use since the user doesn't want 911 called). When the emergency button on the pendant in pushed the base unit dials the first person on the friends list and plays a recorded message alerting the user that this is an emergency call and asks them to press a button to be connected. If a button isn't pressed within a few seconds the machine hangs up and dials the next person on the list (Requiring a button push from the recipient prevents the machine thinking it's connected to someone just because the call routed to voicemail). The base unit is light weight and fells like it was a bit cheaply made, but this is triumph of function over form. Despite the cheaply made feel, the actual use of it is easy, reliable and REALLY high quality.

Works as intended.
After my grandmother fell and broke her hip, we decided she needed something like the "Life Alert" pendant. Decided on this one because of the versatility. She can wear it as a bracelet, a lanyard, or attach to a walker/wheelchair. She does the lanyard option. I have the 911 function turned off. My grandmother has called me several times on accident and I didn't want 911 being called unnecessarily. in the event the first 3 people didn't answer. Pretty simple to use. Haven't tested the waterproofness of it. NO MONTHLY CHARGE!!!! That's one of the best parts. You might pay a little more upfront, but then you are done! I do wish the range was a little bigger. Overall, no complaints though.

Peace of Mind
Don't let the price scare you off! Bought this for a dear relative who has limited mobility and is legally blind. We were very impressed with the completeness of the product. Other products do not come close to this quality. - Features include: - The instruction booklet is very easy to read and follow, so set up is simple and quick. - Battery backup - rechargeable batteries (included) store in the unit and constantly charge while the machine is plugged in. If the power goes out, you're still covered with the batteries. The power plug even has a way to twist it so that it can't accidentally fall out. - Comes with 2 rechargeable batteries for the pendant. One goes in the pendant and the other is a spare that lives in it's own rechargeable compartment in the main unit. This way you always have a good battery to use in the pendant. - Test mode checks the unit automatically on a schedule or can be activated by pushing a button. Messages announce if there are any problems or if the system passed the check. This is helpful to us because people with limited vision often can't see warning lights. The announcement is clear and easy to understand. If certain errors aren't corrected, the unit will even dial the contacts to alert them of a problem. - Can be set to dial up to 4 friends/family members, 4 friends and 911, or 911 only. - Best feature is the user can talk to the person called right through the pendant. When the unit phones your contacts in an emergency, a standard "this is an emergency" message will play, but the user can also just talk into the pendant and converse with the person on the other end, just like a phone receiver. - The user can also answer the telephone for regular calls through the pendant. This means they don't have to rush to find the phone when someone calls. - She has phone service through the cable company, and the unit works perfectly with it. - Nice touch: Comes with 4 business-card-sized instructions that you can give to the friends/family that the unit will be calling, so that they know what to do if an emergency call comes to them. - Besides being used a pendant with an included cord, it also comes with a wrist band so it can be worn on the arm, and a clip so it can be attached to a walker or wheelchair. - No subscription fees are needed, as it calls your friends (and/or 911) instead of a service. Alternatively, if you want, you could have it call the company's monitoring center for a fee. Because it calls the friends/family that you set up, the user may be more apt to use the device before their situation escalates, rather than not wanting to talk to a stranger in a call center. Peace of mind for all!

Great product. No landline, no problem!
I received the product and the instructions were clear, leading to an easy setup. Range around my 2500sqft home was totally fine and volume from the remote unit was great for my mother in law. Important note for those of you who do not have a landline, I know that there is a recommendation to use a cell phone bridge device. I tried this route initially but had problems with the system not working appropriately. For example, when I tested the dialing, it dialed the numbers, but when the recipients hit 5 from their phones, the system did not recognize it and proceeded to hang up and dial the next number in the line. Also, the pre recorded message would start too early and the recipients would only hear part of the message if the phone range too long before pickup. We were using an iPhone with T Mobile Service so I am not sure if that contributed to the issue. So I returned the bridge device and bought a VOIP bridge instead: https://www.amazon.com/OBi200-1-Port-Adapter-Support-Service/dp/B00BUV7C9A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501478690&sr=8-1&keywords=obihai200 This works perfectly and I would recommend this solution instead for all of you folks without landlines.

Works well across a wide home. Saves you money on a outside service
This is a well designed product. If there is a emergency or just a problem the wearer of the device pushes a blue button and specific numbers you programmed into the base unit calls those numbers. The unit works via your home phone. The nice thing about the device is it works like a phone worn around the neck. Once the receiver of the call answers they hear emergency please press 5 to continue. This makes sure you not a answering machine. After hitting 5 you can have a conversation with the person wearing the device as if they were on a normal phone call with you. Now you know what is going on with them and they aren't waiting for a return phone call. The neck unit has a rechargeable battery that tells you every time you use the unit the state of the battery. There is also a spare battery in the base unit for the neck piece as a quick swap when that battery runs down. So far it's been working for over a month without needing to be replaced. The base unit also has 4 AA rechargeable in the unit batteries in case of power failure. Very well thought out item.

Doesn't work as you'd hope!
As instructed, I programmed four different contact numbers of friends into the system, in the order I wanted them to be contacted. As the calls are placed, one at a time, there is a long delay dialing each number. This delay is confusing to older people who don't seem to grasp the long delay. Also, if the household does not have long distance service included with their landline, most likely you can't program a cell phone as one of the numbers, unless it has a local prefix. Due to the amount of time connecting to the numbers on the list, I found people who receive the call seem to think the incoming call is spam and typically hang up, even after practicing with them. At first it made sense to call a friend rather than to pay every month for a monitoring service, but this device doesn't work like you'd expect. In September of 2021, I purchased this device for my aunt, and it has never performed as expected. She's fallen twice and it never helped or added to her aide. I am highly disappointed. I would advise against purchasing this device. Instead, look for a cell phone with a red panic button that sends a pre-programmed text message to the contact numbers on the panic list. If the person carries the phone with them around the house or when outside, they can easily seek help. Someone makes them. A few years ago, I received an emergency text from an older friend, and I called him right back, while on my way over to his house to check on him. Lastly, the return window for this device is so short, by the time you realize you don't like it and discover is offers no help, you can't return it. Bottom line it is expensive, and you'll find it to be a waste of money.

EXELLENT UNIT
Excellent unit. Seems very well built , hi quality worth the price. I bought this for my aging mother who lives in duplex alone. Very simple to program in the call numbers and use. I practiced using it with her to the phone next door and worked very well. 3 weeks later she fell and had to hit the button and everything worked as planned. Highly recommend for those who do not need a manned service. Can hold up to 5 phone numbers that call in succession and last number is always 911. There is a call 911 only switch. Water resistant button for bath use and comes 2 button batteries, one is always in the onboard charger and a programed voice tells you to trade them every 3 months or so. Very happy with this purchase
