Awesome game (many reasons)
The game is excellent. Key points: 1.) 2 player game is at most 45 minutes. 2.) the game is a worker placement game that offers a variable setup (starting tile that give you some special ability, and this is drafted last person first). 3.) upgrades are available with upgrade tiles, that offer additional powers/tech and they also will give you victory points just for buying them. 4.) component quality is excellent. Cards are good card stock and have big illustrations. The pieces are wooden and are well made (and painted). The board has a water level raising thematic process that ultimately will end the game. The pieces for water level rising are easily asssmbled to the main board and look really nice. Machine tiles are solid (thick cardboard). Player boards are informational and have areas for resource storage, starting tech and purchased upgrades. 5.) overall, I would rate this a 10/10 as it is a solid medium weight game that plays quickly, and differently each game. The game is a keeper and will be in my annual game rotation.

A unique game every time!
The first thing you will notice about this game is its table presence. Whistle Mountain is striking and filled with colorful, gorgeous components. But this game is more than a pretty face -- it is filled with interesting decisions and tons of variety! Whistle Mountain introduced me to a new mechanism -- players creating the central game board with new worker placement locations while playing. This means every game you play will be different. And when you add in differing starting abilities, different machines, and different placements of everything, there is more variability in this box than you can imagine! This game is not tricky to learn, but takes multiple plays to even begin to gain ground on mastery. There are a lot of icons in the game, but the rules have a handy icon reference page, thankfully. And once you learn them, it's actually very intuitive. I've found both experienced and new gamers to equally like this game, which is very helpful at game night.

What's Not to Love?
As someone who is just dipping my toes into the world of engine building and worker placement, I'm really glad I made this purchase and excited to get this to the table. I was nervous at first but the rulebook knocked that wall down quicker than I would've thought. A very straightforward, easy to learn, with an in depth detailed component glossary. This was a very quick read, the component quality is top notch and had all the bag storage I needed and then some extras as well! I know the fun of the challenge in gameplay will be worth it. Highly recommended this to any tabletop gamer!

An exciting flooding mechanic drives Whistle Mountain to the top
Whistle Mountain is quickly becoming my worker placement/engine building game of choice. I was immediately drawn to this idea of having different types of worker pieces that behave differently and go onto different spots of the board. Also the idea of the players creating the placement locations on the board felt new and different than anything I had seen before, not only will you have a choice of where you place your workers but you’ll also be given choices about what type of spaces are available to generate resources and points towards winning the game. It is extremely easy to learn with one of the best rulebooks I’ve read and gone through in a long time and aside from learning the iconography in the beginning you’ll be off to a fast start to fun games. For these few reasons and more I think this is going to replace an older all time favorite in this category, welcome to the top Whistle Mountain, you deserve it. Players start off with their own special ability that is drawn at the beginning of the game, and with there being 17 of those ability tiles there is immediate replayability and endless combinations thrown into the mix as to how you’ll play each game. To further augment how unique your own player board will be each game and how you will develop different strategies and ideas each time you play there are 24 upgrade tiles, of which 6 can be purchased throughout the game by visiting a location on the board to even further customize your scoring engine. By the end of the game no two players will be focusing on the same exact combination of goals in the same way. As with any worker placement game some of the board’s destination spots are locked to only being used by a single player at a time, again though this game shines through by providing these wonderful machines that players are constructing that will also act as placement locations. Each of them when activated will trigger a wide variety of powers, some of which are as simple as collection of materials while others have rule changes that can turn the tides for a player. Speaking of tides, as players build these fantastic small, medium, and large machines up the scaffolding that is constructed during the game eventually there will come a time where the water level at the bottom of the board begins to rise. As the waters churn in the valley below, machines will go offline as they are covered, and workers will be swept away to the whirlpool below and will need saving by the end of the game to not be penalized with negative points. Depending on how aggressively players build machines the rising water can be a timing mechanism that really drives the game towards final scoring. Good quality on the components in the game, the three flying balloon workers are unique and fun to move around the board. The tiles and player boards are good thick cardstock that holds up well to use, and while the board itself is a bit plain as far as art or decoration, the muted colors of the background work really well since your focus is always on the scaffolding and machines built instead of actual locations on the game board. Great wooden tokens for all the resources and the fact that each resource ties in to specific build locations on the board makes this yet another reason why Whistle Mountain is always flying off my shelf and to the table for more fun.

Fun and innovative worker placement game with a zany theme
This is a very interesting and fun worker placement game, more accurately, airship placement game. The theme is somewhat nonsensical, but the gameplay is delicious. You are building the worker placement spots on a communal board in the middle and sending your airships to activate machines, or gather resources, but all the while the water is rising and drowning the machines at the bottom. If you like worker placement board games I really recommend giving this one a try!

Awesome board game
Great worker placement game where you set up the benefits you get. But remember the locations are available to anyone so do you set up a powerful location knowing that someone else could beat you there and collect all the rewards? Very engaging and satisfying game to play.

Top Service
Top! Bin super zufrieden
