The award-winning modern classic about a girl who can't hear and her bully, which inspired the acclaimed anime film from Kyoto Animation, returns in a beautiful, two-volume collector's edition. Each extra-large, deluxe hardcover contains over 700 pages of manga on crisp, premium paper, and more than fifty pages of new content. Voices Come in Many Forms In elementary school, Shoya Ishida led his peers in tormenting a classmate who couldn't hear, Shoko Nishimiya. When Shoko transfers schools, Shoya finds he has gone from bully to bullied, and he's left completely alone. Six years later, Shoya struggles to redeem himself in Shoko's eyes and to face the classmates who turned on him. This deluxe, large-sized hardcover includes the first half of this award-winning manga as well as over fifty pages of content never published in English before. Enjoy color art and concept sketch galleries, early drafts of the story, and interviews with creator Yoshitoki Oima and others, packed with behind-the-scenes details! YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens Top Ten Selection; Eisner Award Nominee “A tender portrayal of adolescence and the longing to be accepted.” -The New York Times " A Silent Voice isn't just a potential conversation starter about bullying, it also teaches empathy and has the potential to change behavior." -School Library Journal "A very rare chance to see characters with disabilities represented on the page and a harsh light shed on the way that Japanese culture handles this difficult topic." -Comics Bulletin “A very powerful story about being different and the consequences of childhood bullying… Read it.” -Anime News Network “The word heartwarming was made for manga like this.” -Manga Bookshelf “A story of transformation… A Silent Voice [depicts] a truly egalitarian view of love, something we can all obtain by our own capacity to love, rather than something limited to a perfect relationship.” -Polygon Review: Beautifully drawn & plotted manga about communication (& so much more)! - “A Silent Voice, Complete Collector’s Edition 1” by Yoshitoki Oima is the first half of manga (roughly 3.5 volumes) that was later animated into the beautiful film by Kyoto Animation. Included as extras are the original “pilot” short story, a cover art gallery, & several interviews with the creator. As a collector’s edition, it’s beautiful & hardback & filled with extras that truly deepen one’s understanding of the material. A story about a deaf girl that was horribly bullied by her later elementary school peers, only for her worst bully to end up bullied as well. As the story begins, he has spent years dealing with regret for what he’s done & seeks to undo as much of the hurt he caused as he can. While this plot may put some people off, I think others will find a story about how complicated communication between people is & how especially miscommunication hurts everyone. Also, people can & do change. I’ll be honest, I watched the anime first. It was recommended to me by a good friend… & it still somehow took me over a year to watch it, but it is one of the best anime films I’ve ever seen (many times now). After buying the BluRay & having watched it several times… I had to read the manga to see how good the source material was. The manga delivers. While one can view it as being about the layered problem of bullying &/or a perspective from the deaf / hard of hearing, the manga is truly about communication & how we often fail to communicate with one another. & honestly it’s a stellar meditation on how much we can get wrong by not listening to one another, not putting ourselves in one another’s perspective, & not listening even to ourselves. & conversely, we can learn so much about ourselves & others when we try to truly listen. The art is also gorgeous & the story is wonderfully thought out. This is definitely not for someone with a narrow view though. This is for people who are open to seeing that we all hurt one another & fail, yet we have to keep trying to communicate. This is one of my favorite things I’ve ever read & I can’t wait to read the 2nd edition (covering the remaining 3.5 volumes of the manga). It also deepens my love for the film, which truly condensed the series into a watchable movie that still had the right amount of plot & character interaction. It also had so many Easter Eggs & small things that I might never have noticed if I hadn’t read the manga. Still a tad shocked it was serialized in a shonen manga magazine (shonen is manga targeted toward a younger “male” audience & usually is more plot / action driven), as it reminds me more of a shojo manga (young “female” targeted manga usually centered more on relationships). That probably just shows my bias & lack of understanding though. Please, if you have an open heart, read this wonderful manga. 💜 Review: Can't wait for part two! - Part one was great and powerful. This made me glad that I have a physical copy of the series. I can not wait to read part two, and I'm glad to be reading this over watching the movie, which I will watch sometime.

It’s amazing quality! Worth the price.
I loved, loved, loved the quality. It’s absolutely beautiful. The book comes heavy and DAMAGE free. The pages are so glossy and light to the touch but not tacky thin. The story itself is incredible. I was introduced to A Silent Voice via the movie and I’m so glad I gave this a try. This dives deeper in Shoyo’s personality, including his mom and friends. I’m looking forward to purchasing the second installment of this. If you are debating, don’t! This is your sign. It’s worth to add in your collection.

So good
Watched the movie and wanted to read the manga, the manga adds more detail and depth than the movie so this is a must buy for dedicated fans! Things are definitely more clearer and feel more ‘fluid’ and ‘immerse’, not to mention the extra unique content at the end. Much love

Emotional story
I love this book, it's as good as it is in the anime but the manga has more content, the emotions are good,
