How could a product that contains sulfate combat hair loss on the contrary, sulfate weakens hair follicle

The scientific term „sulfate or sulphate“ corresponds to a huge class of chemical compounds that are not only used in commercial applications (including cosmetics) but also have important cellular functions, i.e. Chondroitin sulfate is endogenously synthesized and provides resistance to compression of cartilage. Therefore it is highly questionable to claim that all “sulfates” are bad.

We assume that the criticism is referring to one of our surfactants Sodium Laureth Sulphate. Sodium Laureth Sulphate is a commonly used surfactant in many cosmetics since a long time all over the world. Due to its amphiphilic structure it can generate the foam of a shampoo and can solubilize sebum very thoroughly from scalp and hair.

Please note that all Alpecin products are generally dermatologically tested. The Wolff-Research undertakes very rigid test procedures.

In general all cosmetic and care products by Alpecin are safe when used as intended. That also applies to young people and children who can of course also use our caffeine products.
Local skin irritations cannot be excluded to occur in any individual consumer.
Please note that our caffeine products efficacy strictly speaking is only evidenced for adults from 18-65 years old. That is because hereditary hair loss in general does not occur before the start of the puberty.
