Review: Ceramic Honing makes a difference - Great tool to have in the kitchen. I use this after sharpening and Honing with steel. Smoothen the edge. You can feel it when testing cutting through paper. Lessens the "grabbing" feeling as the knife goes through paper. Expect Metal streaks to appear on this white ceramic rod. I don't mind cleaning/wiping it with warm soapy sponge after every use. Happy with how it makes my knives aligned and sharp. If you have invested in a good kitchen knife, you will need this to care for your knife's edge. Review: The ceramic length of 10-5/8"" was perfect for my block - As at least one other review said, this knife was too thick to fit in the knife block but I bought anyway knowing this would not be a problem with my tools. I solved this in about 5 minutes with a spade drill bit. The ceramic length of 10-5/8"" was perfect for my block. The ceramic actual diameter is 1.63 cm (.642"). I had to use a .75" (3/4") spade bit in my drill since the .625" (5/8") was slightly too small. I drilled block from both ends to clear entire hole with smaller bit and then re-drilled with the 3/4" bit. After the first use the ceramic feels like it is actually doing something as far as 'bite' and the knives are sharper. Length is just about perfect for the way I sharpen my up to 8" knives. The hand guard is not as large as I would like and is the reason I gave this 4 stars.

Great product
Works well, I do recommend it to anyone. If you are a beginner like me be sure to research how and when to use this type of honing rod. It is not a sharpener but a honing rod that corrects the edge profile. Ceramic is best for slicing. Go with steel for chopping knives. Lots of good info on you tube.

Quick and easy way to put a good edge on. Love it.
I needed a good way to sharpen our kitchen knifes and read where a ceramic rod does a good job and more important, is fast. In the past, I have touched up the most used knives with a small diamond sharpener which did an okay job but I would have to send them out to put a truly good edge on them. The Pierre Bonnel sharpener is very fast and quite easy to use and it's easy to get just the right angle on the knife as the rod is held steady. It doesn't take long to put a nice professional edge on and it is so much sharper than other methods I have tried. In fact, it was so easy, I went through our whole knife block of knifes putting a good edge on them, even the serrated knives. The rod being ceramic, it should last a long time.

I recommend diamond sharpeners
Eh. I have Shuns, Miyabis, KenOnions, etc. Not one responded well to the Bonnel after being abused by various staff. I recommend the Buck Knives Tri-Grit sharpener. You'll hear/read people noting that diamond sharpeners take off metal but my time is much more valuable than a couple or couple of dozen micrometers of steel.

A MUST for proper knife care.
Works well, good quality. Sharpens knifes well. I use it in the kitchen. Way better than the metal hones that come in most kitchen blocks. Makes the knifes but butter smooth.I use it mainly on kitchen knifes and a few folding pocket knifes. Would Recommend, and Would buy again.

Works well, but is cheap
I have had this steel for about a year, using it in a professional kitchen. The ceramic rod is very nice and still in good condition, but the guard is made from cheap plastic with a small piece of metal glued on and has been chipped and broken in many places, as well as the plastic cap on the end of the rod. When using this steel, the blade sometimes gets caught at the seam where the ceramic ends and the plastic begins at the tip.

Excellent ceramic knife sharpener
Excellent ceramic knife sharpener. I use mine on a constant daily basis working in a slaughter house & has been very well worth the money. An when they say break-resistant they mean it... Accidentally dropped mine an not a scratch! Have recommended this seller to numerous co-workers :)
