Accompanying pc software makes it really fly
The tr6s is very similar to its big brother the tr8s, but with fewer dials and half the price !! The internals are identical. What makes it really work for me is the accompanying software that you can download for free from roland. This has a lot of dials on screen meaning you dont have to menu-dive which is the main drawback of the tr6s. Best of all is the bar chart that controls velocity, delay, lfo and several other things. You can drag your mouse across the bar chart to make lots of settings in two seconds. Extremely useful. The builtin sounds are extensive and include a few world percussion instruments. The ACB feature is interesting because you can get inside the sound using zencore, in addition to standard fx on the outside such as reverb, delay etc. The weak point is the small memory for samples. You need to read the specifications to see whether or not it will be suitable for you. Overall highly recommended and a lot of fun.

Excellent drum machine
Great sounds and a (fairly) straightforward interface. I use it just for the drum sounds - driving it from an external sequencer - but even at that level it's well worth the money.

A wonderful machine!
I’m new to the world of drum machines etc but so far I’ve been really impressed with this! It’s fairly intuitive and the scope of sounds available is fantastic - I’m still learning but have already created some nice sounding patterns. I think this feels well made and I love all the lights on it and esp the faders for the various components which really do make something you can play around with quite easily! Of no doubt I’ll learn more about what it can do, but a full range of sounds are here, both classic and contemporary! I’m looking forward to hooking this up to my behringer TD3! The other great thing is its portability- you can use batteries!! I’m genuinely glad I made this choice 🙂

Classic drum machine sounds from Roland.
All the classic Roland CR and TR drum machine sounds in one box. Decent pattern sequencer, but I use it as a 6 voice sound module. Nice and compact.

No good for song writing.
Lovely piece of kit, but unfortunately although great sounding patterns are easy to create, you cannot chain them together to make a complete song consisting of half a dozen parts, for instance. A real pain that took a lot of research to discover. Returned to Amazon.

Inspiring, logical and fun to use.
After buying a Roland JX-08 boutique, and having usb noise issues, and midi issues and confusing menu displays , I was slightly dubious about the Tr06... but happily it's been a worthwhile purchase. My main reason's for buying this was for the original 909 and CR78 sounds, and to speed up my recording process. It's actually packed with lots of great digital kicks, snares, hats, claps and tons of percussion sounds aswell as 808 and 707 ( oh yeah and synth/ bass and guitars) ...all very useful. If you know Roland, you'll know of their menu diving design, but I've found this fairly user friendly and logical, once you get used to it. It's the smaller brother of the Tr08 but has most of the functions. I find it fun to use, and great sounding and portable. 😎👍

Nice One
This is a great drum machine. The TR-8s is also good with 8 tracks but as part of a multiple desktop setup the Tr-6s is easier to use with one hand and takes up a fraction of the space. Easy DAW transfer. Sample transfer could be better. Still not as good as my Arturia Spark LE but for standalone use this rocks.

Review Now Edited
I now have to add an amendment to the below review from Jan 2021. I was made aware that Roland had released an editor for the TR6S. I purchased another via AWD during the speciial offer 20% extra discount week. A great deal. Straight away I updated the firmare to the latest version. For some reason the unit just sounded even better. Navigation is good but if you want to get in under the hood then workflow can slow. This is where the editor comes in. OMG! a dramatic increase in creative speed, everything at your fingertips. It's an absolute breeze to edit and explore now and Roland have done an excellent job. I recommend you check out the few Youtube vids which demonstrate just how good it is. 6 outputs plus the stereo out via USB. So you can have all your drum sounds on seperate tracks into your DAW plus assign certain sounds through the stereo out and apply the TR6S internal FX...so 8 itracks altogether. Something I missed on first use. In a recording set up this thing is now pretty perfect no need for the big brother TR8S (for me at least). Editing everything is quick and clear. Loading your own samples is still done via SD card. It would be great if Roland made this possible via the editor over USB....fingers crossed for the next update. All the Classic Roland TR drum machine sounds are here, with the ability to manipulate everything to create you own kits/sounds...then you have the FM engine to take things even further...plus you can load your own samples. So ACB sounds, FM synths and samples all in one small unit. Amazing! I highly recommend this unit to every electro bro home studio owners out there. Even if you want to use it just for a basic live setup it's still excellent but the editor now takes this thing to the next level. I'll leave my old review below in which I gave it 3 stars. I now give it 5 stars and eat my words. It's so good to see a large company like Roland constantly update, innovate and support it's products...adding new life to some. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It has the same sound set as it's big brother the TR8-S. Although you can't layer 4 sounds at once when creating or editing your own custom drums (maybe not an issue if you're recording or using samples). The sounds and some of the presets are huge and show off nicely what this tiny thing can do. Unfortunetly it's when it comes to editing or creating anything more than basic that is become tiresome. Lots of menu diving that slows the flow. I didn't even bother to try loading samples as I was bored and frustrated after a few minutes. Stereo audio output but 6 serperate outs & the mix via USB which is a nice touch. Roland really have crammed it all in. Everything sound wise is top notch including the effects but it just didn't funk me up! If all you want is a access to bd, sn, hh presets (that are huge) and the ability for very basic tweaking, then I don't think there is currently anything better for you. If however you want more immediacy and ease of full control then I would save a few more pennies and go for it's big bro. I don't think it will be long before these drop dramatically in price or the 2nd hand market is awash with them. So maybe wait for a bargain. I got mine via warehousedeals advertised as 'very good' condition...it wasn't, it was an absolute wreck, so be careful if using AWH...I sent it back without hesitation but I would've even if it were brand new.

Pretty straight forward basics, but tutorials will help
It's a pretty straight forward drum machine, but tutorials will help you get more out of it. It's not a terribly difficult piece of hardware.

Great piece of kit. Loving the authentic (ACB) 808 and 909 sounds!

Maravillosa
