Remodelista

Remodelista is a darn good book. My wife and I are 12 years into a 30-year home remodel. We're both design hogs, and we butt heads all the time over the house, but we both love this book. Julie Carlson's plants her aesthetic flag squarely in the neighborhood of Ernest Hemingway, Scott Alexander, Rem Koolhaas, and kin: use simple, well-made things, present them openly, not too many. Her values are stated clear-as-day on pages one and two. Read those on-line. If you don't share them, skip the book. If you do share those values, the book offers a rich trove of ideas, diving deep into twelve beautiful, not fancy, homes of like-minded people with surprisingly different, thought-provoking perspectives on well-made space. Each page pops a single design idea from a cool home with links to practical resources to execute it. Some are expensive, some are not. It's just plain fun to thumb through. Physically the book is simple, weighty, and elegant, reinforcing Ms. Carlson's point. When we have company we put it on the coffee table. Otherwise it migrates from desk to nightstand to ahem, bathroom. If you're working on a remodel and value clean design, Remodelista is a must-read.

This book inspires both calm and chaos. The calm in knowing you can create order and beauty and utility out of any space, and the chaos in wanting to jump in and re-engineer your surroundings immediately. The breathtaking results are so impressive as to be intimidating yet the book remains accessible throughout. There's no precious AD museum home nonsense. Even the "10 Rules" at the very top give the confidence to get started and a place to begin. This is a great gift.

This is a great book for anyone interested in design and lifestyle ideas, or involved in planning a remodling project. The designs are beautiful and typically simple with clean lines and an uncluttered esthetic. Salvaged and 'found" items are often put to inventive, recycled purposes showing that original, beautiful design needn't be expensive. More creativity than cash is at work here. I especially liked the section at the end listing Remodelista's 100 favorite products/style items, many of which are now on my "acquisition" list.

Design cognoscenti know Remodelista.com as the go-to inspirational site for clean, elegant, livable modern design. This book indulges the reader with the same aesthetic in gorgeous big color photos. Even if you have a shelf full of architecture and interior design books, the Remodelista look is different, so this will be a favorite addition. What sets this book apart even more, though, is the thoughtful, interesting, and detailed guidance it gives about how to go from inspiration to action, and achieve the Remodelista look in your own home. It's full of wonderful ideas on how to approach each room in your house, and how to mix high and low to create a beautiful and unique space.

After reading the Remodelista website for a few months, I decided to order the book. Some of the content in the book has already been featured on the blog, but the book also includes new and additional content. In addition to photos of some beautiful homes, the book includes a curated list of objects for the home as well as practical tips for renovations.

It is, hands down, the best design book I've purchased in a long, long time. It is on the same level as the Design*Sponge book. If you care at all about interior design, have a home renovation project and most certainly if you are a fan of the website by the same name, you need to own this book. This is quite a book, at nearly 400 pages. Do yourself a favor and read the review by Eco-Friendly Feng Shui Designer on October 28, 2013 titled 'Practical and Inspiring'. I couldn't have said it any better myself, and I couldn't agree more with that reviewer.

I own many, many design books. Some I flip through once or twice and infrequently go back to them. Others I come back to time and again. This book falls firmly in the latter category. For now, it lives on my bedside table. I've read through it and am still absorbing all the great photos, tips, and practical advice. I love the mix of high and low and the value placed on sturdy, functional objects that are often things of beauty. Purposeful simplicity reigns. This has become my go-to resource as I finalize a remodel of the main level of my home.

I think I thought this would provide more design concepts than it had. Find it a nice idea book, but not much else. It is well published, with solid binding, thick paper and clear images.

Essendo un libro pubblicato originariamente una decina di anni fa, alcuni riferimenti specifici a negozi o marchi oltreoceano potrebbero risultare difficilmente replicabili qui da noi, anche se la filosofia di fondo basata su pezzi classici lo salva dall'invecchiamento. Preparati a una lettura densa che richiede attenzione: non aspettarti solo belle foto da sfogliare passivamente, ma preparati a studiare schemi e consigli testuali molto corposi. Esperienza d'uso Immagina di dover rifare il bagno e avere la testa che scoppia tra mille campioni di piastrelle e preventivi astronomici che ti gettano nello sconforto. Ti siedi sul divano, apri questo libro e vai dritto alla sezione dedicata agli spazi di servizio. Leggi come un sapiente mix tra una rubinetteria di pregio e dei semplicissimi rivestimenti industriali possa svoltare l'intero ambiente creando un'estetica ricercata. Chiudi le pagine sentendoti improvvisamente padrone della situazione, con le idee chiare su dove investire il tuo budget e dove invece puoi serenamente risparmiare puntando su alternative geniali ed economiche. Conclusione e consiglio È un acquisto quasi obbligato per gli appassionati di interior design, per chi sta per affrontare una vera e propria ristrutturazione e ha bisogno di una bussola estetica, o semplicemente per chi cerca un approccio minimalista ma vissuto e caldo alla propria casa. Evitalo se ami lo sfarzo eccessivo, gli stili barocchi o se cerchi unicamente un colorato volume pieno di immagini giganti da esibire sul tavolino del salotto senza mai aver voglia di leggerne i testi. La dritta in più Sfrutta la sezione "The Remodelista 100" come vera e propria lista della spesa per i dettagli che fanno la differenza. Quei cento oggetti di uso quotidiano suggeriti nel libro, da una semplice scopa a un contenitore per il sapone, sono selezionati con una cura estetica tale che basterà metterne in mostra un paio nei punti strategici della tua cucina per elevare immediatamente la percezione di design dell'intero ambiente, spendendo letteralmente pochissimo.

I bought this book for a friend for Christmas and couldn't resist having a pre-wrapping peek. My daughter then said that I should put it on my birthday wish list, but I couldn't wait that long and ordered my own copy. As well as the beautiful photographs, there are inspirational idea and a section that shows you how to source products and put those creative ideas into practice. The content is well structured and the book is a pleasure to handle.

I had heard about this book some time ago and finally got my hands on it long enough in a library to be blown away and order my own copy. Such useful references and simplicity of ideas. The smallerbook, Remodelista An organised home is another one I would recommend. Both books excellent.

Full of inspiring ideas, this book sits on my night table and has been read and reread many times (text and all). One book I won't be selling on any time soon.
