Replacement Seat for Herman Miller Classic Aeron Size B Medium (Black Mesh)

I have an Aeron chair (size B) that I bought in the late 90s. A few years ago the seat started to tear. Not bad after 20+ years of almost daily use. I bought a replacement mesh which turned out to be a bad idea. It didn't quite fit and it wasn't made of the same stretch material as the original seat. Ok, lesson learned there. So I bought this and it was a perfect replacement. It's an entire new seat, not just the mesh. The mesh is the same stretchy material as the original. It looks identical to the original seat as far as I can tell. Replacing the seat was pretty easy. The instructions were good and it came with the tools needed. I think it took about 20 minutes and I was done. If you've made an investment in this chair, I think it's worth it to spend a little more getting this replacement seat so you have the official product. I'm writing this review 2.5 years later in Feb 2026 and the seat is still great. Zero problems, no regrets.

It fit perfectly. The color is an almost identical match. All necessary tools (of good quality) were included, as were a pair of work gloves. The instructions were useless, but you won’t need them anyway. To remove the old seat, take out the big bolts first, then the small ones. To install the new seat, install the small bolts first, then the big ones. There was also a metal flange clipped to the back of the old seat. I don’t know what purpose it serves, but I moved it to the new one.

While a bit pricey, I'm quite impressed with this kit. Comes with an actual chrome-plated wrench, 2 t-handle allen wrenches, white gloves, and a reusable carrying bag. This might very well be the best "free" assembly kit I've experienced! Oh.. and the seat is great too!

I had enjoyed my Aeron B for 20 years before the seat mesh started to tear. After researching a lot of options, I was happy to find this quality replacement. The seat fit perfectly, came in a classy insulated bag with a set of decent tools. The matching cushion insert was a bonus and usually not included with other seat replacements. The instructions were a bit confusing -- you can find better tutorials on Youtube. But all in all, an excellent buy at a very fair price!

This looked nice at first, but the fabric quickly lost any of the tension it had on original installation and now has a bottom-marked saggy spot. I'm a pretty thin guy, so I didn't push any weight limits on this thing. The original HM chair bottom that I replaced is now already in better shape than this one. Very disappointed it didn't last.

This is a third party replacement for the seat of an Aeron chair size-"B". It fits PERFECTLY for a size B. If you read someone complaining that it doesn't fit, it is because they ordered the wrong item OR the wrong item was shipped to them. But the item listed here, the one I have received fits a size B perfectly! NOTE: The amazon listing has clear images showing the dimensions of a size-B and size-C chair seat. It also has (and I found this to be the most useful) an image illustrating how the back of the chair has TWO screws for a size-C chair and ONLY ONE CENTERED screw for a size-B chair. I included a photo of my size-B chair for illustration. The good: - It fits perfectly and it's easy enough to replace. The Bad: - The product arrived with a torx screwdriver instead of a 4mm hex key. If you have a set of hex key at home, you're good. Otherwise get one here with a 4mm key. (Note: I only had an imperial set of hex keys and I found and used on that was close enough to hold securely) - The instructions are terrible (mostly ass covering with CAUTION boxes). But it's easy to install. Here are the simpler instructions: Removing the old seat: 1) Remove the large side screws holding the seat of the chair using the larger 6mm hex / Allen key 2) Remove the 2 sets of nuts/bolt forming the "collarbone" connector below the chair, using the provided 10 mm socket and the (or your) 4mm hex / Alen key Putting in the replacement seat: 1) Attach and screw in the 2 sets of nuts/bolt forming the "collarbone" connector below the chair, using the provided 10 mm socket and the 4mm hex / Alen key. ** IMPORTANT** do these ones first or (like me) you will have to redo it... if you put the larger screws in first, you won't be able to access the space to put in those smaller ones after. 2) Align the seat, insert and screw in the large side screws holding the seat of the chair using the larger 6mm hex / Allen key Conclusion: Bad instructions, wrong tools (but hey, they **included** tools, so it's not too bad!). Great seat, that fits perfectly! Verdict: If you have a size-B chair and need a new seat: GET IT herre!!

I recently got a 2002 Aeron Classic size B locally from someone and the chair was in great shape, but the seat was sagging some. It was clear that just replacing the seat would probably be the best bet as it obviously takes the most beating. I was a little hesitant when ordering this because the price was good and the promise seemed big. It kept the promise and is great! It also comes in this insulated tote bag with all of the tools in their own zipper pocket and honestly, the bag itself is just a big bonus. Overall, I've had the seat for upwards of a week, sit in it daily for long periods of time and it feels great! It looks like the original, everything matches up well from a coloring perspective and the mesh looks the same. I really recommend it for anyone who needs a new seat.

Replaced the seat. Wasn’t easy. The chair I had needed star Allen key wrenches. But after replacing, I cannot tell any differences with the original. Really high quality. After removing the spoilt one, I realize that the mesh can be removed from the seat. The number on it says 240817 BL7, which I am guessing may be a part number. If this was available, it would have been perfect too. Easy to change too, just Philip head screws. Regardless, still very happy with this replacement.
