Freedom โ that is what Lilly Linton wants most in life. Not marriage, not a brood of squalling brats, and certainly not love, thank you very much! But freedom is a rare commodity in 19th-century London, where girls are expected to spend their lives sitting at home, fully occupied with looking pretty. Lilly is at her witsโ end โ until a chance encounter with a dark, dangerous and powerful stranger changes her life forever...Enter the world of Mr Rikkard Ambrose, where the only rule is: Knowledge is power is time is money! Review: Amazing Series! - This is a series that I keep coming back to! The tension in this story is perfect. The characters are all well fleshed out and add something to the story. The plot, while it sometimes is slow, still is interesting. Lilly Linton is witty and she is so fun to read and watch as she continually attempts to outsmart Mr. Ambrose (aka Mr Darcyโs more uptight brother). It definitely is a slow burn, and I could see why it would be too slow for some people, but the journey is so fun to go on. The entire series is packed with humor. I definitely recommend this series! Review: One of the best - This is one of the best books, the series is amazing. It is well written and has historical facts the are accurate, it enhances the experience of reading this book. Thier is a mastermind, his characters bring you moment of relatability while providing comedy like no other. Iโm a fan of the FMC, and have a love-hate with the MMC. Definitely a book to read!

worth the read!
The story itself was very intriguing. I absolutely loved it. The characters seemed a little out of sync at times and not as realistic, but the main characters grow on you. I wish the word choice in the conversations were more to the times of this era, but it was so fun I will continue reading anyway.

Slow Pacing for a Great Slow-Burn Romance
This book started out so slow, I read the first few chapters a few months ago, and didnโt pick it back up until now. But I sure am glad I did! So if youโre like me, and often get distracted, definitely try to read at least 25% before you give up on this book. Storm and Silence is the story of Lilly Linton, a young woman living in 19th-century London. She is a total feminist, and dresses in menโs clothes so she can vote in an election. On her way to the polling station, she helps Mr. Rikkard Ambrose avoid a bad purchasing deal, and he requests that he (Lilly dressed as a man) shows up at his office at 9am on Monday to be his new personal secretary. She shows up at the office dressed as a woman, and Mr Ambrose refuses to let a woman work for him, but recognizes that she is intelligent. He makes her put her menโs clothes back on, and is allowed to be his secretary as Mr. Linton. The story continues with Mr Ambrose and Mr Linton hunting for a stolen document, while both trying to deny that they might be starting to actually like each other. This story starts out pretty slow, which is indicative of the pacing of this 880 page book. It is slow; I found it similar to the Outlander series. Once you start to get into the true storyline of Mr Linton and Mr Ambroseโs working relationship, it is truly entertaining. I liked that each scene was long and well written, nothing ever feels rushed. However, it also made the romance aspect of this book feel more real and believable. I really liked the character of Lilly. She is hard headed, stubborn, witty, and insolent. She definitely does not act like the prim, proper and stuffy ladies of your typical historical romance novel. She was always cracking me up with her thoughts and speeches. Mr Ambrose isnโt too bad either. He tries to show no emotion, and is always described as โcold and calculatingโ, but every once in a while, we glimpse an emotional side to him which had me aching for more of Mr Ambrose. My only hang up with this wonderful book is that Lilly seems to be able to work for and go on adventures with Mr Ambrose all the time, and only seldomly gets caught or questioned about where she has been. Her web of lies gets bigger and bigger; partway through Book 2 I am still waiting for her to get found out! How much time can a girl spend at the park?? If youโre looking for a historical romance, but youโre tired of the same old historical romances, give this book a shot. Thereโs a slow-burn romance, adventure, action, and witty banter. I canโt wait to read the next book in this series!!

Slow burn!
This book is a true slow burn romance. Maybe too slow for some people. Lilly Linton can be perceived as juvenile and immature to some readers, however to me I deeply enjoyed her personality. At times her character can feel a bit inauthentic and forced, and the feminist in her has its moments where it just feels so forced. I can appreciate the implementation of her personality and values, but at times it just felt like overkill. However nothing to where it killed the enjoyment of the book. The first like 250 pages of the book is extremely slow, with the insane emphasis on her sister Ellaโs romance. I felt like all the detail and description was unnecessary. That being said though, there was moments here and there of the brewing romance between Lilly and Ambrose which kept me glued to the book wanting more of it. This story is truly remarkable, and it definitely takes some dedication to really get what you want out of it but to me, it was well worth the wait. If you donโt think you have the dedication for a slow burn romance, I really donโt recommend this to you. The enemies to lovers and the slow pacing of the book always kept me wanting more, and it is certainly one of the more realistic books Iโve read in terms of the pacing. I read this book in 2018 on Wattpad and it will always have a special place in my heart. Highly highly recommend.

Easy, comical read for a lazy afternoon.
I do like the book. It is quite hilarious and fun to read but one thing that really bothered me were the dialogues. There are just a little too modern to make me convinced that we're really in Victorian era England. As for the plot, I think it took a while to get to the actual adventure. I think this is due to the fact that the book was originally published through Radish in episodic format so the author had the incentive to put cliffhangers at the end of each chapter to keep the readers engaged for the next chapter release. It works when published in this fashion but once this is an individual book, the plot unfortunately drags. I've skipped through quite a few parts of the book because it just wasn't important - and you don't miss much. I do love the characters - Lily is hilarious but her insistence in getting her way all the time can get quite annoying - but I suppose that's part of the point and the relationship dynamic between her and her boss. I'm also put off with her rather shallow definition of feminism (I'm a feminist! I can't like men!). It's great that she's not a damsel in distress and can sort of (emphasis on sort of) get herself out of sticky situations but it bothers me that she still actually needs men to REALLY get her out of sticky situations. It's almost like the author wants to appeal to the female readers by putting in a "strong" female lead, but then falls short right at the end. Finally, I feel that the author could have delved a bit deeper on all the social issues it touched on and explore some of the political/economic/social situation the story's set in. Some of the "historical" insights within the story barely scratches the surface and I feel could be interlaced into the story a lot more. Possibly this is also the reason why I just don't feel convinced that I'm in Victorian-era England. I really don't feel like I have been transported back in time. The historical tidbits within the book are thrown in almost as a trivia rather than front and centre of the story. Yes, the main entertainment is the banter between the 2 characters - but perhaps there's too much emphasis on it. It will be a more well-rounded book if the historical setting is fully immersed as part of the story and more depth in the political/economical aspects that drives the main adventure.

Do yourself a favour.
So. What are you waiting for? Do yourself a favour and read one of the best new books of 2016. Set at the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign, Robert Thier's historical drama unfolds at a cracking pace, and introduces us to a new kind of heroine. Following in the literary footsteps of Elizabeth Bennet and Jane Eyre is Miss Lilly Linton a feisty, passionate and brave young woman, but unlike her predecessors she is not interested in marrying anyone. Miss Linton is a new kind of woman; she is a feminist and a suffragist, and all she really wants is to have a job, the right to vote and be independent of any man. Her quest puts her in the path of the enigmatic Mr Rikkard Ambrose, one of the wealthiest, coldest and most ruthless magnates in the burgeoning British Empire. A collision is inevitable and throughout the ensuing discourse between Miss Linton and Ambrose the sparks of passion, wit and humour fly. This combined with some James Bond style action makes for a very entertaining read. The historical details and bevy of fabulous minor characters create a textured background for Lilly and Ambrose to play against. Put your hands on a copy on this handsome tome, then pour yourself a nice cup of tea and break out the solid chocolate- your will not regret it.

I could keep going but you get the gist' It has also has the best depiction of a realistic relationship and scenarios
*rolls up sleeves* Let's get this review started people! This story has rightly deserved the "People's Choice Award". And it deserves plenty more. This book has everything! Mystery, A very unique humour, Drama,Romance,Thriller,Action.. I could keep going but you get the gist' It has also has the best depiction of a realistic relationship and scenarios. But still maintains its imaginative spark. While reviewing books we all say that we laughed and enjoyed reading the book, but probably the most you might have done is mentally give a small smile. But believe me when I say this, you are actually going to LAUGH OUT LOUD. And I dare you, who reads this to prove me wrong! This book will teach you more about Interesting History in one chapter than you learned in all of your school days! We all imagine the Victorian Era to be rather dusty with weird shaped dresses and posh people dancing about in massive ballrooms. THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND. IT WILL MAKE YOU SEE IT IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT. You will never relate to a character more than you will relate to a 19 year old Victorian Girl'. Sounds funny right? Boy you are wrong again' ;0 The author is absolute magic! He makes the scene and settings come alive!. HE WILL MAKE YOU LIVE THROUGH THE ENITRE BOOK! The reason it deserves a five star rating. So many people are confused as to why that is' Let me elucidate. This story has been a massive journey for all us fans. We have lived it with the author, in real time. We have had the pleasure to laugh along with the other fans..made plenty of friends.. Shared our thoughts and feelings.. Made crazy theories, and gave plenty of feedback. In return Sir Rob has never disappointed us. Ever. He is the only author who I know works so hard and dedicatedly. His researches are super accurate. If you do not appreciate the hard work he has put in. You will never appreciate any thing in life then' A BOOK WORTH YOUR MONEY! I am a resident of India, and when I saw the price of this book ,I was slightly taken aback. It was a bit expensive. But I still went ahead with the purchase. But when I got to hold the MAJESTIC beauty in my hand.. I realised it had been worth every penny I had saved up. Mark my words.. YOU HAVE NOT LIVED TILL YOU HAVE READ THIS BOOK!

Worth every penny!
This book follows young, intelligent feminist Lilly Linton as she acquires a job as secretary of the silent and broading Mr. Ambrose, the manliest of men, who has his mind set on getting rid of her, because women aren't fit for working outside their own house. But obviously, Miss Linton can not allow such things to happen! At first, I feared this book would start of with two characters who dispise each other and end with both of them incredibly in love. But I couldn't have been more wrong. There's so much more to the story. It portrayes the position of women in Victorian London, the irrationality of humans, the way we always want something we can't have and how we fool ourselves into thinking we have some sort of control over our lives. The writing's splendid, the characters have a depth to them that makes them so intriguing and the author has a wonderfull sense of humor. You're captured from the first chapter to the last word of the book, that keeps you hanging on for more! Luckily for us, the second book is being written this very moment! So, to round this up, spend the money, but gain something that is worth so much more! And last but not least, remember: Time is power is knowledge is money!

Forever Worth the Money
This novel ticks every box! Suffragism, independence, historical accuracy, adventure, action, romance and witty rapport. 'Storm and Silence' is impossible to put down from the very moment the first page is read. Intriguing and compelling, we follow the narration of the leading lady - a head strong and fiercely independent Miss Lily Linton living in nineteenth century London with her myriad of sisters, their frugal uncle and matrimony obsessed aunt in a setting reminiscent of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The novel opens with Lily's attempts to infiltrate and vote dressed as a man. In her foiled attempts she meets business magnate and stoic billionaire Mr Rikkard Ambrose who, mistaking her for a gentleman- offers her a job as his secretary. This story is lighthearted and immensely enjoyable and one of my all time favourites. Lily is strong, intelligent and delightful young lady with gumption in spades, whereas her counterpart and employer the stoic and mysterious Mr Ambrose displays mythical self control and discipline as well as a general disposition for ruthlessness and perfection. I cannot recommend this book, this series or this author enough, I adore almost all of Rob Thier's work and emplore everyone to give them a go - you won't regret it! Other books in this series are #2- Eye of the Storm, #3- Silence is Golden, and the ongoing fourth addition Silence is Breaking. More of his work is available on Radish (app) and on Wattpad if you're interested.
