Immediate results for reactive dog
*****1 week update***** TLDR; 6YR old rescue dog goes from being an animal-aggressive/fearful/reactive dog to a being a better citizen I can walk around the neighborhood with the Halti headcollar as a training tool. My original review was more product related and discussed pulling. Had to update because it's more incredible than I realized. My boy would either lunge aggressively, flip out in panic, or scurry away and pull hard when he would spot another animal on a walk. It has been a scary 9 months where I have often feared and dreaded taking him out because he is big and has attacked others (thankfully not too severely because I have good reflexes). He is usually good with basic obedience commands but would go into a blind rage or panic thrash and become impossible. I did a couple of weeks of giving him kibble as soon as he laid eyes on another dog. It helped a bit, but wasn't perfect because he wouldn't take the treats gently when in a tizzy. Then I got this Halti. I spent a few days correcting him for his bad attitude (tight leash, quick tug, and stern vocal correction AS SOON as he looks at another dog funny, or his posture gets stiff, or he goes into hunt mode -- shut that down, which wasn't possible with normal leash/collar corrections.) Successfully walk away for a few yards? Sit, "good boy", treat, keep going. He fought the Halti the first couple of times that he wanted to flip out, but soon realized it was a fight he would lose. Consistent and immediate corrections all week... started giving him treats and "good boys" for being more calm about walking away from dogs the next couple of days. It's amazing. I'm still careful and keep him a few yards away from other animals, but we went to the local park today at dog walk o'clock and he was amazing, I didn't even bother with treats. He's definitely getting it now: that 1) I do NOT want him to react or fixate. 2) He's not going to win fighting the Halti. 3) the other dogs are not all out to get us. 4) walk away from another reactive dog? Extra praise and good boy kibbles for being the bigger dog! (He's overweight so he can't always get treats, but I sit him down and give him affection instead sometimes, then keep walking.) He saw many dogs at the park today and did not lunge at, bark at, or whine and pull from a single one. He was a little weary of a couple but didn't freak out at all, just kept glancing at them cautiously but walked away knowing what was good for him. Anyway: 5 stars. We can live in peace now. I hope if you're a reactive dog owner who has come home in tears of frustration, that you will give this a try for your dog and believe in their best self (also beckman's dog training on youtube - very helpful if you're not sure where to start.) ***** My 64lb border heeler is wearing a size 2 (he's overweight) and generally is not trash on a leash. At a distance of a few feet ahead of me, he usually won't pull AS badly as some other dogs I've had (unless he sees a cat/squirrel/dog, then he goes NUTS), but if I tried to get him to walk next to me or focus on me and find me, no luck. Just got it yesterday, that video our first walk with the headcollar and double ended leash (that I'm not sure I'm using right frankly). I used treats when putting it on. I pulled him away easily (you pull - dog listens - and gentle motions do just fine, no need to be harsh at all) or distracted him with treats when he tried to take it off mid-walk a few times. He's annoyed that it works. I love that it works. Seriously, I'm barely holding the leash and he is not pulling, so I'm amazed. I stop, he stops. We're turning together 😭. Seems comfortable enough and build seems good, too. Size 2 is perfect according to the Halti size recommendations for a cattle dog, but I did measure him just in case since he's a mix. I'm hopeful that, along with the treat conditioning I'm doing with him when he sees animals on walks, it'll help his reactivity and make walking him less stressful.

Over 20 Years Later, and I still absolutely ADORE the Halti!!!
I don't get why this product has such a high return rate, unless people may have gotten the wrong measurements for their doggo. But oh my goodness, it's still as amazing as when we were first introduced to it in 2001! Back then, we had a 100 lbs Labrador mix who was crossed with all kinds of ornery, and even after obedience classes and all kinds of training, he would pull so hard he'd regularly yank me down to the ground, break free from my grip, and take off for adventures around our neighborhood (namely running to the nearby cow pasture to roll in cow patties. Which really stunk. Washing cow poo out of dog fur outside on a cold autumn afternoon is not fun, would not recommend). I'm not exaggerating at all when I say the halti collar saved my dog from being dropped off at the shelter, because my parents were just about fed up with the stubborn boy. But then our vet recommended trying the halti collar. And man, was it a game changer! All of a sudden, we could easily walk him! There was no more tugging, pulling, or knocking us to the ground. We could actually get him to heel. And, with positive reinforcement, he grew to love it, even running up to us to put his muzzle inside the halti because he knew it meant we were going out on another delightful walk! And here I am now, over 20 years later, finally ordering my second halti collar as my last one sadly bit the dust, and it's just as good as all those years ago! My Caucasian Shepherd/Pyrenees cross is doing great with it, and I'm so grateful to be able to be able to experience the wonderful joy of using a halti with a large dog all over again! I love how they've improved the design, with extra padding in the halter around the nose area, as well as the fabulous added safety strap to help prevent the halter from slipping off the muzzle! It also has added reflective material which my old one did not have. And, after just a couple of positive training sessions, I'm already noticing a difference in his tugging, and I'm controlling him with a lot more ease. If you have a big dog or a hard to manage dog to walk, I absolutely encourage you to get the halti! It has been a favorite dog walking collar of mine for over 2 decades, and I plan on continuing to use it in the years to come. Definitely recommend!

Extremely helpful for pullers!
I have a 85 pound mutt who just loves to pull my husband and I on walks. She hates this thing because she can’t pull us, but I absolutely love this head collar. It’s very helpful. Our dog is very strong, and has jerked us around town with a regular collar. When she attempts to pull, it pulls her face and corrects her automatically. We bought her a size 2 and it fits perfectly. It’s a cute green reflective color, and the clasps & straps haven’t given us any trouble. Straps are not too thin or thick. It’s easy to put on her face.

Great head collar - significantly decreases pulling on first use
I have a 75lb dog and this head collar makes a night and day difference in pulling on just the first use. I like that you don’t need to adjust the part that goes over the snout as it makes it easy to put it on to where you can hold that part open as wide as it goes. Only feedback for improvement is I wish the strap that connects to the leash attached behind the head - otherwise the leash gets tangled in their feet easily. As a work around - I still use a harness and feed the leash through one of those loops as a guide to keep the leash to the back.

Highly recommend!
The best head halter I have tried so far!! Only thing is I wish it had a thicker more durable option. My dog hasn't broke it but it seems like it could easily break for more strong dogs. Besides that I love this and reccomend for pullers!! It has helped a lot with my gsd and her pulling.

It's fine,
Works pretty good. I have a Rottweiler and she is pretty stubborn so it's still a fight it's been 2 weeks., I will still be looking for something else to try because she does fight it.

Best head collar, without a doubt.
***This is a long, detailed review based on my experiences with head collars and my large breed dog.*** I have a 105 lb. malamute that likes to get in touch with is "ancestral side" and pull. He doesn't chase anything, he just likes pulling. I have tried harnesses (as suggested to me by his breeder), but it made him pull even more. I then discovered head collars! I have tried three: The Gentle Leader, Halti, and Walk n' Train by Coastal Pets. I'll list some pro's and con's based of my dog and explain why I prefer the Halti over the other two. Lastly, I'll give a little suggestion for those who want to start using head collars. ___________________________________________ Dog info: 105 lb. malamute, red and white Longer than normal muzzle for malamutes (very wolfish) Gentle Leader (GL): Pros: *incredible control; nearly instant control of your dog *several colors so you can match your dog's fur *not easily confused as a muzzle Cons: *following the instructions with the GL can restrict your dog's breathing and cause them to constantly have the head cocked in a downward position *can rub off the fur below the eyes (I noticed this and stopped using it right away) and sometimes ride into the eyes *for dogs with long muzzles (such as mine) the sizes can be awkward and never fully comfortable for them *my dog freaks out when it is on his head no matter with all the training I've given him (the GL was the first head collar I used with him, so trained him with it for about 6-7 mo.) Halti: Pros: *as much control as the GL, but MUCH gentler than the "Gentle" Leader *the loose fit helps the dog adjust a bit better, my dog didn't buck around *they are free to move their head around and can breathe, pant, eat, drink, and play MUCH better due to the lack of a clasp on the nose strip *nose strip has a cushion that DOES help regarding the rubbing issue Cons: *constantly confused as a muzzle (in black) *if not used properly, it can ride up into the dog's eyes Walk n' Train: Pros & Cons: *Basically the same as the Halti, the general form of the collar is the same for each. The Walk n' Train has the clasp that the GL has, but puts it on the Halti. *I didn't like this one purely because that clasp (if done like the instructions) turned it into a bulky GL _______________________________________________ I currently have the Halti in black and I love it. I bounced back and forth between the GL and Halti during my dog's growth. He always fit the Halti better due to his long muzzle, but I couldn't figure out why the Halti kept riding up into his eyes so I stopped. However, after using the GL for several months I found the old Halti and slapped it on. He immediately took to it better than the GL and I noticed that the Halti stopped riding up. But the major thing I noticed was that it was EASIER and more EFFICIENT to control him with the Halti. Why? I had experience with head collars. If you are new to the concept of head collars getting the GL might be more beneficial just so you get to understand how they work. Head collars never need more than a slight pressure pulling up to make your dog sit and calm him down. The GL does come with a great instructional DVD, while the Halti does not. Due to the Halti's loose fit it may freak some owners out and scream "It's going into his eye!" and quit as I did previously. DON'T. All that means is that YOU as the handler jerked the Halti to hard and fast. The only time that is needed is if your dog is lunging (which is hard to do even with a head collar). A gentle pull up will make his rump plop down. So, if you want to have your dog comfortable with is his head collar, have a head collar that is extremely effective buy a Halti and watch the video on the GL about how to use a head collar. Doing that will ensure a great walking experience. My ONLY gripe is that everyone thinks my dog is viscous because the Halti looks like a muzzle. It bothers me slightly so I am getting a different color. But in retrospect, you may want that so suspicious looking people leave you alone and possible muggers will bugger off. Sounds odd, but it has honestly helped me in some situations. You can wean your dog off of using the Halti if you want, so that you can just use a regular collar. But, I always use mine primarily because I am not a very tall woman and I have a big dog. It gives me that much more control of him (my boyfriend and dad can't control him and they are both 6'). ***This is a great way to control an arctic dog. They have the natural instinct to pull and this negates it and helps establish that ever battle of alpha with him. TLDR; Best head collar I have ever tried. Watch the GL video on the Premier site to learn how to properly use the head collar. Go for a walk and enjoy!

Reduces Pulling
I bought the Halti Head Collar for my Irish Doodle who would not stop pulling on walks, and honestly, it has been a total game changer. At first, I wasn’t sure how he would react, and I will say there is a short adjustment period. He didn’t love it right away. However, after using it consistently, especially during walks or anything fun, he quickly started to associate it with positive experiences. Because of this, the difference in his behavior has been huge. The pulling is now very manageable, and walks feel calm instead of stressful. In addition, it gives much better control without needing to use force or harsh corrections, which was really important for me since he’s training for service work. Another thing I like is that it feels secure but not uncomfortable once properly fitted. It just takes a little patience in the beginning. Overall, this has been one of the most effective training tools I’ve used. If dealing with a strong puller, this is absolutely worth trying—just stay consistent, and it pays off.

Works well. Doesnt suit all dogs temperaments
Woreks as it sipposed to. Just be aware that some dogs hate head halters (as my dog did so I had to get a Sporn)

Pretty Decent
Packaging looks underwhelming. I hope it's a brand new product. It does look new. Sizing wise is perfect for my mini golden doodle who is 13kg.
