Clearing up the complaints in these other reviews.
First, the scent. What about the scent? There is much to-do about the scent in the reviews and you may be afraid that the scent is "strong" or that you'll smell like licorice all the time. Don't be concerned. I have no idea what these people are on about. There is a hint of anise (black licorice) but I think the scent is a mix of spice notes and woodsy scents with maybe a tiny bit of anise. I think, personally, the top note is clove. Is it a strong scent? No, absolutely not. One single spritz of cologne is way stronger than this stuff. Will you smell it? Yes, faintly, and for a little bit until you either adjust or the scent fades away--it's hard to measure what is actually happening under one's nose. Having used it for a few days, my wife did not even notice the scent of it on me. In fact, for the sake of science, I put a lot on one morning, waited a few minutes, and had my wife give me a sniff from about 5 inches away. She said that she couldn't really smell anything at all. In any event, I think it smells quite good. (NOTE: If you cringe at the thought of wearing even the weakest scent, as some men do, Honest Amish makes an unscented version of this balm.) Does it work? Yes. My beard is softer and it looks nicer too. I'd recommend the product to anyone who uses a stronger soap for face cleaning as a strong soap turns your beard hair into steel wool. This, along with some good conditioner, helps put things back into shape. Does it help with the dreaded beard itch? Yes, and boy was I glad that it did. Does it help with the dreaded beardruff? Yes, my skin is regularly flaky with beards and this took care of that too. Is it greasy? Well, at first it is a little moist. After you put it on, it does seem to soak up very well such that you don't have any meaningful residue on your beard. If you use a lot, it'll be a bit greasy, but if you've used a beard oil before you should know what you're in for. Does it help with holding or shaping? Basically, no. It does contain wax, but this stuff is for conditioning. If you want a bit more hold, buy the heavy duty balm (and see my review on that.) I used this stuff in the early stages of my beard and switched to the heavy duty balm when my beard got longer and more unruly. Does a little go a long way? Yes, so don't be put off by what seems to be a small tin. You're supposed to apply this to a damp beard and the dampness helps the small amount of the product go even further. There's no "set" amount to use here, naturally. You can tailor it to your liking or your need for conditioning. I tend to use a good-sized portion, particularly as my beard gets longer and before I transition over to the Heavy Duty Beard Balm. Still, I'm not burning through tins. I've had the same tin for more than a year. Get it. Try it. A "For The Ladies" Edit, 11/29/15: My wife, for whatever reason, started using this on the ends of her hair. She's been doing it for months now and swears by it. So, I asked her why she likes it so much. She said that it keeps her ends moisturized and it has helped to eliminate split ends. She said she also thinks it would have useful application in controlling fly-aways while braiding. I'm pretty sure I have very little idea what that means.

Here is the description people: Honest Amish Beard Balm is created from the finest organic ingredients available. We start with a proprietary blend of hair strengthening botanical infused in a base of Virgin Argan, Avocado, Almond, Virgin Pumpkin Seed, and Apricot Kernel Oils. It is then masterfully crafted with fruit and nut butters (Shea, Aloe, Cocoa, Kokum, to name a few), and hair enhancing essential oils. Subtle scents of Cedarwood, Anise (licorice), and Clove. We recommend that people with nut allergies avoid this product or test a small amount before application. Honest Amish Beard Balm will help soften, condition, dry splitting hairs, and nourish new growth. Our balm is also very conditioning for your skin and will stop the itching caused by new growth and wild rogue hairs. Due to the use of only natural ingredients in our beard balm, separation of the product may occur when exposed to fluctuations in temperature. The beard balm will continue to work as normal; it will just require a few extra seconds of manipulation when melting in your hands. However, to return it back to a smooth consistency it can be melted back down by placing the beard balm in a warm place (direct sun light, in car, heater vent, etc. Do not use open flames, microwaves, or stove tops) Once melted, secure the lid on your beard balm and shake it up, mixing up all the oils. Then allow to cool to room temperature or place in refrigerator for faster solidification. Beard Balm may liquefy in transit USE CAUTION WHEN OPENING. We use absolutely NO man made chemicals or preservatives and NO fake fragrances or colorants in any of our products. Packaged in a 100 percent recyclable tin. Made in The U.S.A. by hand for an honest wage. If you are not 100 percent satisfied with your purchase for any reason, please return it for a full refund. With that said. It explains most of your complaints in the 3% and 7% categories. My review so far: *Consistency is exactly what is expected for balm. *Scent is great and have gotten a ton of feedback from peers and family. Smells great, bottom line. *Stops itching as noted as it gets to the root of your beard. Just make sure you put a little bit on your fingers then rub it around to make it clear, then apply throughout your beard and to the roots of your beard. Important. *I use a beard brush to manage my curly beard and is recommended as I saw complaints in the poor reviews about this. If you have stray hairs, train them with a beard brush and a blow dryer on medium heat, not HOT! Overall, this is a great beard balm! Natural, full of fine ingredients and made in USA. Not sure where the tin is made, but probably Chinese(I would like clarification on this). Looks to be aluminum tin but not sure. In then end for those that say it does not work, opinionated statement and based on your beard type. For those that say use "conditioner" same affect, well, a ton of store bought poorly made conditioners have all type of chemicals and manufactured oils that can dry your beard beyond belief. Conditioner chemicals comprise of Benzyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Propyl Alcohol and Ethanol. Parabens are also used with preservatives that can cause skin sensitivities, so watch out people! For those that say, it melts, changes color, etc., well, place/store in a cool area, do not expose to heat! Its' common sense people, stop giving poor reviews and if you do, you can return for a full refund. This is my first time buying this product and have no affiliation with the product, but when you state what you do in the reviews please educate yourself to substantiate your claims. Review closing comment: *Great product, smells absolutely nice, paste is great and works well in beard in my opinion and many others. Feel confident purchasing. If you do not like it, return it. Really easy folks!

Completely as expected. Have been using for a week, and so far, I'm very happy. Readily turns to oil in the palm of the hand, and doesn't have a strong scent.

Always had honest amish slick wax, first time using the beard balm and they are both absolutely awesome products. Very softening, smells good and no itchy beard!

Ok. My initial impression. I see tons of reviews on presentation but other then a deeper smaller circumference then most other tins of balm and for the earth huggers will like as that it’ was packed is a paper box (card stock stiff). Ok real review. So far my First impression was good. On First opening the sent is strong,,to me. I have an exceptional sense of smell so it was fairly irritating and smelled like a cross of Vick vapour rub and pine-sol, but simmers down after application. I’m not sure why Balm manufacturers thing pine-sol smells good. I’d like to see a different sent or none. Ease of application is great. It’s consistency is much softer at room temp then most, the same also gives the distribution in beard way easier. Others I’ve tried are stiff in the can and using a finger to scoop out some is difficult. And clumps in beard when applying and trying to spread it out leaves white streaks on the beard and are terrible to brush through the beard to spread it. Not really greasy. By end day the beard was somewhat softer and had almost no hold so I looked like Santa with my side burns sticking straight out. Summery of first application, stinky, easy to spread, moderate to weak hold, some improved beard softness softer beard even after shower, can is unique and label on top is novel and artistic. Pricey compared to competition and hopefully it improves more after multiple applications. Presently after one use the price point is high for a marginally if at all, better performance . Currently not worth the extra 15$ paid compared to brands like the Rocky Mountain barber that has more options is scent, size of can size (2 and 4 oz) and negligible softened beard. Currently I don’t under stand why the higher cost in comparison.is justified. More updates to follow -just added Jan 31. If you are like me and put your beard balm in a warm place (I have a shelf above hot air vent) making it easier to scoop and spread don’t do it with this balm. It is allready soft. The extra heat made is almost runny. Still is in my. Top 5 of balm/butter Final review, I like it, it is softer and easy to use then most. Smell it’s a bit much at start but mellows out. Definitely in my top 5. I recommend it.
