Straight Outta Compton tells the true story of how 5 young men, using brutally honest rhymes, put their anger about life into the most powerful weapon they had: their music. Review: Star struck and entertaining. - I love this movie. Ice cube did a excellent job producing this film. There was outstanding performances from all the actors. Everybody in this film gave 100 percent. There was alot dramatic scenes in this film. There was teachable moments in here about life and struggling to make it in the music industry. Ice cube life; Dr. Dre life and his relationship with Shug knight; Easy- Z life and tough relationship with Ice cube and their record label manager. You can learn alot about the entertainment industry ( the do's and don'ts). I recommend this film to anyone who wants to a career in the music industry. This film is entertaining. Review: The Best Movie of 2015! - This is one of the very few movies I wanted so bad to add to my DVD collection! This movie, IMHO should have been nominated for some other major categories besides Original Screenplay. Jason Mitchell, who played Eazy-E, was so believable in his portrayal of the Gangsta rap legend, should've at least been considered for a Best Actor nominee, but I won't go there! The only downside of the DVD is that it's not the Director's cut, which also means there was 20 more minutes of the movie that wasn't seen in the theater. You have to get it either On Demand or buy the Blue-Ray version but you do have the usual extras, including hearing from the real Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren & DJ Yella & director F. Gary Gray. Sure they didn't touch on some of the other controversies that surrounded the group, but also learning a lot from the record business and the dealings with a shady manager shouldn't overshadow what NWA meant to the music industry and society.

Great movie!
LOVE this movie! If you grew up in the 80's when NWA was at their prime then this movie is for you. It's filled with great music of course, but more than that it makes you want to stand up for what you believe in and if you have a dream follow it. NWA set the stage for so many others who came behind them from a wide range of genres to have the freedom to do what they do. It still saddens me about Easy but much respect for coming forward about AIDS especially during that time when the fear and stigma was at it's peak. No guts, no glory... these guys had guts in spades.

A White Guy's Perspective . . .
Being born and raised around corn and soybean fields of the Midwest, the lifestyle and events portrayed in this movie were foreign to me when they happened, and are still something I’ll never truly understand. With that said, “Straight Outta Compton” opened my eyes – at least as much as a movie can. I collect movies from the bio-pic genre and this one is about as authentic as it can get. It’s grossly unfair how it was overlooked at the Oscars. It’s just as relevant to its genre as “Walk the Line” or “Ray” was to their genres and all the attention they received. “Straight Outta Compton” portrayed real issues and emotion that had me oblivious to the clock; it grabbed my attention and kept it throughout. One particular tense scene shows the guys stepping outside a recording studio for a break, and up rolls the po-po. Words are exchanged and the police make all the guys lay on the ground. The (white) manager comes out and the shoutin’ begins. He’s tells the cops, “You can’t arrest somebody just because their black!” I felt like I was watching a real showdown! This scene - and others like it - helped me understand where the distrust with the local police came from. The movie was well cast, well acted, and well directed and the attention to details gave me flashbacks. For example, the inclusion of authentic news casts, such as Matt Lauer (with hair!), Tom Brokaw, and Rodney King footage, reminded me what an impact hip-hop was making at the time. It also reminded me how mainstream America saw the music and the group as frightening and/or intimidating, not understanding that the frustration and anger was from the lack of anyone listening and caring about race issues, and the lack of change in certain communities. NWA brought these issues to the nation’s attention. I happen to be a teacher, and many of my students of color told me they found this movie to be inspirational, and I think I can see why. However, the film may not be for everyone. It is rated R with lots of language your Mother (at least my Mother!) wouldn’t want repeated. There are also at least two or three party scenes that are gratuitous in terms of how women are portrayed. It’s been many years since this story and events went down. Life goes on. New people come on the scene and sometimes lessons learned the hard way are forgotten. Maybe we can use “Straight Outta Compton” as a way to measure real change . . .

A must-have movie!
This movie was robbed! It should have gotten an Oscar! It depicts a band that had an EArth-shaking, life-change, society-changing effect in a tumultuous time around the Los Angeles Riots in 1992. Their honest and open discourse approach to lyrics was shocking and took a minute for society to swallow. But, the band had a positive overall effect on society from the West to the East coasts. I think everyone can benefit from watching this movie, not only for the knowledge dropped about what was happening in society at that time and what N.W.A. contributed to the overall discourse, but the viewer will have a damn good time as the movie is well made, the dialogue is on point and the music, of course, is flawless.
