Flowtron BF-35 Replacement UV Bulb for BK-15D

Replaced burned out bulb. Works as expected and running strong and very month with no issues.

We own a Flowtron BK-15D Bug Zapper that has been humming along for about 3 years until the original lamp bit the dust and needed replacement. Satisfied with the lifespan, we ordered the recommended genuine Flowtron BF-35 lamp from Amazon. Removing the old lamp was simple, just push back a plastic tab and swing open the base door; Easy enough and the spent bulb pulled straight out. Inserting the new tube was straightforward until it came time to replace the bottom swing access door. It would not close. We pressed as hard as we dared, making sure the base was fully socketed but the door still would not secure. So we removed the lamp and compared with the original. Aha! The new one is a tad longer. That explains why some reviewers claim it will not fit while other people report having trouble with installation. Undaunted, by the fitness challenge, we whipped out the trusty heat gun and gently warmed the door flaps just enough to bend them back and provide sufficient pressure to hold securely in place and still replace the access hatch. Evidently, other customers are getting replacements that are the same length as the oriiginal, going by the reviews. Perhaps this size issue rarely occurs. In any case, we have provided photos of both the old and new bulbs, showing the length difference. Flowtron has stated the BF-35 lenth in a few listings as being 7 1/2 inches. Most generic brand replacements list their size as 7.56 inches. Our new Flowtron bulb measured 7.72 inches. It is too early to report lifespan as we just got it in, but the brightness and color closely match the original. In conclusion, be prepared to deal with the length issue if you order this lamp. Perhaps Flowtron has a replacement door to accomodate longer length. Maybe yours will fit fine. And maybe you have a trusty heat gun ready to make it fit. Happy zapping!

The replacement bulbs fit perfectly and the unit is already at work! It has been fantastic!

It's not the materials quality is different in third-parties ones, so much as their packaging. The real ones are packaged much, much better and so will arrive intact and last longer. They also last ~50%-200% longer than third-party ones, so buying the real ones is actually cheaper and less work in the long run. Just don't get me started about ballast longevity. Haha.

UPDATE This bulb gave me about 10000 hrs of light for my insect zapper. I bought the bulb in December 2017 and it lasted to February 2019 being on 24 / 7. It attracts the insects and they get zapped. This Bulb is suppose to be Black Light, but is more like a normal fluracent light with a VERY VERY SLIGHT blue to the glow. It is supposed to be BLACK LIGHT like a Disco Light. That's how the old one was. Update on 5th June 2020, I replaced a bulb in March 2020 and it gave me 10600 HRS of use, being on 24 / 7 hrs a day. Photo of the old bulb and the unit lighting was supplied for you viewing. I'm happy with this bulb, I am going to order 2 more to keep in stock. The price I payed in 2019 was $17.95 and now in 2020 it's now $18.95. .

Only lasted four months before needing to be replaced, which is much less than I expected and much less than the original bulb.

We have used our Flowtron bug zapper for at least 20 years. When we hooked it up this summer, the bulb flickered and died. We had one spare bulb left on hand and installed it - everything works perfectly. So, we wanted a new replacement bulb for the next time this happens. Locally, there were none - our unit has been superseded multiple times and "no-one" buys the BK-15D bulb anymore, we were told. Online we found a few, some used, at exorbitant prices, but only Amazon had the bulb at a reasonable price. By the time the one we just installed plus the spare from Amazon both wear out, I expect we will have worn out, too.

This is a perfect replacement bulb.

This worked well for me. The first bulb lasted only 10 months (it was on from dark til dawn). I would have expected a longer life

The original bulb that came with the bug zapper lasted 3 years. This one only lasted 5 weeks just after the return window closed.
