I've had the Yubikey a week or so now, and like it alot, but..On smartphone nfc doesn't work; the phone recognises the Yubikey but that's it, nothing happens so end up plugging it in with the usbc and then it works.On laptop Yubikey plugs in with the usbc and it works straight away.

Easy to use with no real issues. It allows me to log into important accounts using a PIN, which is really handy. My only gripes are the price and how small the device is. It feels like good quality though—durable enough with responsible use.I'd recommend having a lanyard, or something, to reduce the risk of losing it.

I can confirm that the yubikey 5c nfc is firmware 5.7.1 as long as you buy from the official yubico dealer on amazon.Works as intended, with the latest firmware you can store more accounts."Is it really necessary though?" I say yes. It's the same thing as wearing a seat belt in a car. Does the seat belt come in use for every drive? No, but when it does need to be used it will save you.Same thing with this. You get hacked and this will prevent hackers gaining access due to requiring the physical key (to an extent, does depend on how heavy you lock down your accounts and your general cyber security level!)I have replaced all my important accounts with 2fa with mostly the yubico authenticator app.Where possible, I have set the 2fa as the security key, however this is very limited and the majority of websites / apps do not accept this. Major websites usually do accept this though, but just check before buying!I recommend buying 2, as to secure your apple account they require at least 2 security keys. This also helps you recover lost accounts if you register 2 keys as one can be a backup.Overall, i do recommend it. It's better safe than sorry when you've got your identity stolen / lost money!!

Before first use test of nfc doesn’t work. The latest firmware keys with firmware 5.7.4 will not work using nfc as it’s a security feature. It’s best to ensure before plugging in as it’s a surefire way of knowing it wasn’t previously used. Go to the official yubico authentication site on a mobile phone. It will ask to touch your NFC enabled device for authentication purposes and to tell you what firmware it is on (firmware cannot be changed or updated so latest is v5.7.4.). It will not detect your Yubikey. That means it’s never been used.Then plug it into a usb c powered charger or a port on your phone or laptop. Anything that will provide power and you will notice the Yubikey logo will flash yellow for a few seconds. Once flashing is stopped. Go back to the site and verify not only its authenticity but that you have the latest version as it will show firmware etc.I had the latest device so safe to get these from Amazon as they are supplying the latest stock. I will buy another which is essentially as a backup since you cannot unfortunately clone these or act as passkeys that have the ability to backup and transfer so keep that in mind. In fact companies like Apple accounts will require two types of these keys to even use them for multi factors authentication on the account and go passwordless.Very expensive but made in swish and America exclusively so makes sense. Very good build quality. Super easy to setup as during the authentication process on yubicos website will make one for you and even guide you to how it works etc. very easy. It has a large capacity in terms of storage for different apps/sites/accounts to be enrolled in it and magament is easy with an intuitive app plus desktop version that’s even better.Highly recommend getting a pair of these in this day and age with ai guessing passwords in seconds using brute force. More and more companies are offering this type of authentication tools so it’s easy and convenient with nfc and usb c so covers everything from older iPhones without usb c and just better for port wear and tear etc.

Already spent too long trying to convince my computer its changed my keyboard to a US layout to start the process.Unless there is a European equivalent then dont waste time purchasing.
