A necessity for using bushings
I purchased an additional base for my DeWalt DW611 router (the base which came with the router does not accept bushings). I was able to use this centering cone to place my new base exactly in the center aligned with the router bit. I am confident I can, now, use my bushings knowing I am in line with the router bit. In my opinion, it would be impossible to correctly line up a router base to the router bit without using a centering cone. I suppose the centering cone would, also, be necessary in other applications -- if you have a jig, the bit could be further from one side than the other if the bit were not aligned in the middle. Bottom line -- if you are going to replace the router base, you should use a centering cone; this one works perfectly.

Definitely buy this!!!!! It will ...
Definitely buy this!!!!! It will make centering your bit 100 times easier. Honestly don't know how you would do it without this centering cone. For the amount of money you will spend on trying to center a router bit this it will save you 10 times that in aggregation. For me I don't use a router as much as some people and am by no means an expert at using one. However, this is one of those little helpful things that allows you a little more time to set up your jigs and and figure out exactly what it is you are doing

Router sub base centering
This is a good tool - it has the conical shape and a 1/4" shaft on one end & 1/2" shank on the other. It centers your sub base on your router with your cutting bit. However, I learned afterwards, I could of just re-drilled countersunk holes in the existing holes of the sub base that normally connect the base to the router, but , glad I have it now.

Simple and easy...
This allows you to install your router base exactly centered on the center axis of your router. That isn't important if you're doing freehand work, but you want the bit centered if you're using a bushing and following a template. This thing is simple to use. You chuck the metal shaft in the router, loosely put the base in place, slide the cone onto the shaft and stick it through the hole in the baseplate...the baseplate is now centered. Tighten it down, remove the cone and shaft from the router and you're done. Simple.

Necessary router tool but could be better.
If you do any routing and switch base plates, you will need to re-center your base when reinstalling. This will help and is wuick and simple. It works fine with the 1/4" collet but the other end is smaller than 1/2" (Why??? that is a dumb decision since 1/2" is the other standard size) so it won't work with the bigger size. Also is made of plastic so over time it could wear and become loose on the steel shaft - then you get to buy another.

Does what it is designed to do, but needs a gentle touch
Cone itself is plastic. If you put a lot of pressure on the cone when centering the baseplate, it’s technically possible to bend it, causing the baseplate to be misaligned. However if you just do it gently, it does what it is supposed to. If you want to jam it in place, using force, I would recommend buying a cone that is fully made of metal, and preferably with a 1/2 inch shaft, as 1/4” or 8mm shafts kan stil be slightly bend if enough force is applied. Still 5 star review because it is reasonably priced and perfectly capable of doing the job is you don’t abuse it. Yes a metal one would be better. It would also be a lot more expensive. So price vs quality, it deserves a 5 star review.
