Great for reworking a board and doing repairs. Great for heat shrink tubing too.
I bought this because some components are hard to remove with a solder iron. I watched some videos and noticed that a lot of people are using these air types to work on boards. I found one that was highly rated and reasonable on the price. This turned out to be a really good tool. I repaired a few boards, even removed some small components with no problem. Then I discovered something else, it also works on heat shrink tubing. I set it to about 240F or so and it is awesome. It pulls the heat shrink nice and tight without getting it to hot and splitting. It's awesome. It heats up really fast. It even cools fairly quickly but I wish I could get the fan to run with no heat to make it cool faster so I can change tips. For the price tho, I can't complain. Oh, when I first turned it on, it didn't do anything. You have to remove the heating part from the holder. It has a sensor and turns off, or stays off, until you remove the heating part. Also, be careful you don't cover the air intake with your hand. The way I like to hold it when using for heat shrink tubing, I find I cover the air intake and have to change positions. It sounds different so you can tell when you covering the air intakes. Overall this is a nice tool. Comes in very handy and does what it is supposed to do. I just wish it had a fan only button for 30 or 45 seconds to speed cooling time to change tips.

Professional Precision for SMD Rework โ Stable, Fast, and Bench-Friendly
When your work involves component-level repairs or custom PCB assembly, a reliable hot air station isnโt just a luxuryโitโs a requirement. I integrated the YIHUA 959D into my electronics workbench specifically for handling delicate SMD (surface-mount device) rework and heat-shrink applications, and it has proven to be a high-performance tool that punches well above its weight class. Efficiency Through Memory Presets The standout feature for my workflow is the triple memory preset system. Being able to toggle instantly between a low-heat setting for delicate plastic connectors, a mid-range for standard lead-free soldering, and a high-flow setting for stubborn ground planes or heat-shrink tubing saves an incredible amount of time. Instead of fumbling with buttons every time I switch tasks, I can jump straight to my calibrated "sweet spots" with one touch. Superior Thermal Control and Airflow The temperature stability on this unit is impressive. It reaches the set temperature almost instantly and maintains it with very little fluctuation, which is critical when you're working on sensitive microcontrollers or dense boards where overheating neighboring components is a constant risk. The airflow is smooth and highly adjustable; even at higher velocities, it doesn't feel "turbulent," allowing for precise targeting of specific pins or pads. Professional Safety and Build Automatic Cooling: The "cool down" feature is a vital safety and maintenance tool. When you place the wand back in the holder, the station automatically ramps up the air and drops the heat to protect the heating element, significantly extending the life of the tool. Compact Footprint: For a high-power station, the base is surprisingly slim. It takes up very little real estate on a crowded bench, leaving more room for my microscope and soldering iron. Build Quality: The wand feels ergonomic and balanced in the hand, and the digital display is bright and easy to read from a distance. Final Verdict The YIHUA 959D offers the kind of precision and reliability youโd expect from a much more expensive industrial station. Whether Iโm replacing a damaged component on a custom carrier board or finishing off a wiring harness for a vehicle build, it provides consistent, professional results. It is an essential piece of hardware for any serious electronics lab or professional repair shop.

Great Hot Air Rework station. Easy to use and comes with additional nozzles.
It's my first hot air rework station and it's perfect for the repairs I've been doing. I was able to replace a 2ds charge port without issue and replace other components as well.

Ok for home use
I would agree with others that this isnโt professional level. Itโs fine for occasional DIY home use. It worked well removing surface mount components on a pc board. My only complaint is the how they attach the nozzles to the hot air gun. Itโs kind of cheesy using screws to clamp the nozzles. The screws they provide are super cheap garbage that only last one or two times. I had to go to the hardware store and buy quality screws and nuts. This is why I took a star off the review. Overall I would recommend this station for home use. Good value for the price, assuming it lasts.

Terrific tool! Looks, feels and performs way better than price might suggest
I will admit that this is my first hot air solder tool. For all my adult life I have gotten by with low wattage fine tip pencil irons to build and repair electronics. However there is no getting around the fact that a pencil iron is like a sledge hammer used to set a thumbtack when it comes to the incredibly small and densely packed SMT solder pads and parts these days. And forget removing a high density IC, especially those with heat transfer pads on the back. This gun, with the help of a couple helpful youtube videos on technique has allowed me to to build and repair PCBs that I would not even try before I had it. The build quality is first rate. The feel of the tool in hand is excellent. The range of temperature and air volume control offered seems right for my needs. It heats up quickly, and both the heat and air volume capability is well beyond anything I am currently needing to remove even the largest LSI. The wand stays cool in hand and the selection of air tips lets me control how concentrated I want the heat, depending on the size of the part. Having the option of saving 3 temp profiles is very handy when moving between part sizes and/or solder melt temps. I practiced removing large chips, small chips and individual small components using the PCBs from a couple dead HDD. I also used them to re-prep pads and install these parts. I was quickly able to dial in the temp and air settings to easily remove, clean and install all the parts without lifting or damaging solder pads, although I would bet most of parts I removed are overbaked at this point because of the time I spent heating and reheating them... I am delighted with this purchase. I have found myself taking parts off dead PCB's just for fun (and more practice).

It can get hot quick
This station is very nice .well made and I used it on surface mount components that I salvage off a board and work nice. You can set different heat setting and also comes with different tips.Good for shrink tube and many other heat needs.

As good as it gets for an excellent price
It worked perfectly. Iโve only used it once but I suspect from other reviewers it will continue to give me good service. When you put the handheld unit into the cradle it automatically cools down and then turns off the heating element and blower. I used it to remove a surface mounted 2sc1972 transistor and it took about five or 10 seconds and it was done with zero damage. If you use something other than a hot air Rework unit you would definitely risk printed circuit board damage. It has three presets which are actually pre-programmed for the three most useful heat settings which I wouldโve programmed anyway so that was perfect. The beauty of this is I was able to heat all three tabs of the transistor simultaneously. The instructions were also actually good. It came with 4 nozzles two tweezers and a wire device for removing more sensitive surface mount components. Iโm very satisfied with the build quality and I look forward to using this for many yearsโฆ If any issues come up I will update my review but for right now I couldnโt be happier.

Works well in my application (hobby electronics)
This is my first hot air rework station, and I've only used it a handful of times in hobby applications, but I've been pleased with it so far. I've been able to remove surface mount components from old PCBs in my junk drawer, as well as components with several lugs (like switches). The hot air wand allows me to melt the solder on multiple lugs at the same time (which is difficult wit a soldering iron, at least for me). I'm happy with this purchase!
