does this radio come with a rechargable power sorce?

Unfortunately, my radio didn't come with a charging cable, but due to the construction of most mechanical keyboards, spilling any sticky liquids can often ruin them due to the fact that the steel plate where the key switches are mounted cannot be removed for cleaning.  While this often means losing anywhere from $90 to $140 in an instant, it also provides extra parts.  If you or a friend have recently lost a keyboard in this way, believe me I grieve with you, but if the keyboard connector is Mini-USB, you now have a perfect charging cable.  Just plug it into a powered USB hub, and you've got an instant charger.

Question 2

I cannot figure out how to listen to AM radio on the unit. How do you dial in or scan AM stations? Thanks in advance.

To scan and store AM stations, select MW on the MW/LW button then push the ETM button till it flashes.  It will scan the AM band and store receivable stations.  Then you can step through the stored stations with the rotary dial.To manually tune AM stations, press the VF button.  The display will flash for a few seconds.  While flashing, rotate the tuning knob.  You are now in manual tuning mode as indicated by the ">" to the right of the display.  Slow tuning is 1khz steps, faster tuning is 10khz steps.  Fast tuning will show a ">>".  You need to experiment a bit with the tuning speed.  To go back to the ETM and stored stations, touch the ETM button.  Hope this helps.

Would ths be a good choice for getting clear AM reception in deep suburbia (Boston area)?

I think this will be ok for Boston however, since it dosen't have that external antenna as an addition you would find yourself using the antenna and clip wire that comes with it, the down side to that would be that sometimes in certain areas you would have to move your antenna around alot, and that ends up leading to the antenna coming loose, so i would recommend if you live deep in suburbia to give the kaito ka1102(my personal favorite) a shot because not only does it have the external antenna connection but it also has the red lights on it that lets you know when you getting close to those hard to reach stations.

Question 4

How does this thing sounds when connected to good external speakers? I read somewhere on the net that it has distortion issues with it. That's kind of a dealbreaker for me. Thanks

This was a gift for my grandson.  He assures me that the sound quality is excellent, but he was using the internal speaker.  I would not see any reason why it would not be satisfactorywith external speakers.
