From Bill W., co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, a collection of inspiring and illuminating articles written for Grapevine magazine Bill W. was AA Grapevine โs most prolific contributor, having written more than 150 articles, from his first in June 1944 to his last in December 1970. An enthusiastic advocate, he also served for many years as a consulting editor of Grapevine , which started as an eight-page local newsletter and became the principal journal of the Fellowship. In more than 150 articles, written over a span of twenty-six years, Bill Wilson documented the painstaking process of trial and error that resulted in AA's spiritual principles of recovery, unity, and service, articulating along the way his vision of what the Fellowship could become. In The Language of the Heart: Bill W.โs Grapevine Writings , readers will find Billโs initial inspirations for what became the Twelve Traditions, his battles with chronic depression and spiritual pride, memories of an all-night drinking spree, and a vivid description of how he came to organize the Twelve Steps (there were six in the first draft). For anyone in recovery from alcoholism or addiction, this uplifting and poignant collection provides a view into the early days of Alcoholics Anonymous as well as deep insights on emotional sobriety and personal struggle. Ultimately, The Language of the Heart documents a heartfelt journey that offers foundational knowledge and hope. Review: Great quality - Bought for a book club so I haven't read it yet but the quality of the book as it came was perfect! Review: Highly recommend - Step back in time and read Bill W.โs personal writings to the grapevine as well traditions and the reasoning behind each one being created. As far as recovery this book not only provides insight but can be used as a vital tool to help progress and ensure sobriety. Such a great read and I find myself going to it all the time as well gifting them to others. Highly recommend

Great book for recovery libraries
Great book for recovery libraries. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this book is fairly large and thick mini mini great nuggets of wisdom and truth in this book itโs a beautiful thing to have to your library in addition to the original book from Bill and Bob which is Alcoholics Anonymous this book in particular deals more with the meaty part of recovery and getting down to the heart of the matter hence the name and as we all know love and tolerance must be our code and in that I find that this book has mini mini mini pearls of love truth honesty realness just a great read itโs a bit not like the other books Iโve read for me personally I like things a little bit more organized but itโs a little bit do you have to really dig in in order to get to the parts that are shared in meetings etc. etc. etc.

wonderful for therapists
This is a great book for therapists as a resource for support groups and sufferers of addiction. Realize, this is a dated book but much like a classic, elements hold true today.

A history book
This is a history of the beginnings of AA. It is written in Bill W's usual style. It comes from writings he submitted to the AA magazine The Grapevine. It is not stories about people getting sober. It is the story about how AA developed it's traditions, and organization, and the writing and publishing of the big book: Alcoholics Anonymous. It is interesting, and Bill is a pretty good writer even if he over uses the semi-colon :).

A God Story for the Ages
Bill details examples of how the pioneers, mentors, and wise advisors helped craft what became the 12 Traditions which govern AA. By experience and keen understanding of human nature and the alcoholic personality, this loose committee over time established a way of life for the global organization that works. Their understanding that they were making something that had to pass the test of time, no matter the circumstance, spurred them to research other failed attempts so as to avoid earlier mistakes. Notable were the 19th Century Washingtonians who lacked the needed structure to overcome outside pressures. AA has established a seeming foolproof way that is fascinating reading. It is true that "anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities." It is a God story for the ages.

A beautiful collection of thoughts
Bill Wilson is a beautiful writer and prolific thinker. The two skills make for a wonderful book to read and reflect on the history of Alcoholics Anonymous and a spiritual way of life for oneself and being part of the world as a whole.
