I cannot give you a scientific answer, since I don't know of anyone comparing the intensity ratings of Nespresso with Illy. However, the flavor is rich, but not bitter. In my experience, these capsules are very reminiscent of Illy that I've had by the cup from an espresso machine when in Europe.
