I think this is under perfect conditions. Ive had two sets of other radios and they really struggled to get 1 mile. These have a better aerial and have been much better but I still wouldn't want to rely on them over a mile unless i had a pretty clear line of sight between handsets.

Does it come with a belt clip

It's like a peg. But can clip onto a belt.

will they work up to 1.5 miles in a town?

You might be lucky but i doubt it. I had that in open country but if the ground between handsets was higher they started to struggle. You need something more powerful than this type of transmitter to guarantee reception.
