I think the reason Amazon states this is a frequently returned item is because the description says it can open up to 3 inches. This is true IF you remove the black blade guide. See the pictures where I show the opening inches both with and without the blade guide. Just because the cutter can open up to 3" does not mean it is able to cut a 3" PVC pipe! PVC pipe dimensions are usually referring to the INSIDE of the pipe. A 2" PVC pipe is thicker than 2" if you measure from outside to outside. 3" pipe exterior dimensions are also greater than 3." It does a great job of cutting 2" PVC and smaller sizes. I do not know of any other PVC cutting tool made in this style that CAN cut a 3" PVC pipe. I use a saws-all with a fine tooth blade and then sand paper to brush off off the jagged loose PVC bits after making the cut -when cutting 3" or larger pipe. There may be better tools available to cut larger pipes like this, but I do not have enough need to to cut those larger pipes to invest in other tools. This one is great for 2" and smaller, comes with a spare blade and the blade can be swapped out with ease so I am happy with the product.

Ok, finally got around to using this PVC pipe cutter the other day. It works a treat. Not had any issue with the blade yet. I've seen some of the dents from others. I just can see how cutting PLASTIC this could occur. Nail or screw in your plastic pipe? Gee I have no idea how that would affect a plastic cutting blade. LOL The black nose shows it coming off to have a larger cutting area. Not tried this yet. Not even sure how this comes off.

Excellent pipe cutter

Whether you are collecting overdue loans or cutting PVC pipe, these will get the job done. Of course the first part was humor....these are strictly meant for cutting PVC pipe and they are sharp so be careful. If you have smaller hands, you may need to start the ratcheting action prior to sliding the pipe in place, but with very little pressure, they will cut through the pipe like butter. Best part is they are not plastic and do come with a latch to keep them closed while not in use. Make sure to ratchet them fully closed before putting away. While they are metal, the blade can break if dropped just right.

Unless you only have 25-50 cuts to make, don’t waste your time with this cheap cutter. I got this for a laundry room renovation and it didn’t make it through that one job. After about 30 cuts to, the blade locked in the closed position and no amount of fiddling would release it. I tried removing the blade and reinstalling but that didn’t work. I ended up having to take the unit apart. Because there is no video available for this unit, I had to figure the mechanism out. Fortunately it’s not that difficult. After fixing it two more times, it eventually went in the trash where it belongs. The issue isn’t the construction, which is good, it’s in the cheap springs they use. Save yourself the pain and buy a better quality than this low end model!

It looks like it’s putting up more resistance than it is in the video, but even with one hand, this cuts like butter, I swear! 😂 I got these to cut aluminum lined pipes to make giant flowers for my daughter’s birthday party and this made it SO EASY!!! Great quality for the price! It did not come with instructions but you just push the handles apart to reset the blade 😊

I had a small plumbing job that I needed to do and I did not have anything to cut pack tubing with. It was a job that I was going to need to cut several pieces of pecks tubing and this worked flawlessly We were building some fish habitat. Trees and it took several small pieces. These did exactly what I bought them for they are super sharp and durable a great value for the money very easy to use and easy on your hands. I would recommend them to anyone.
