Excellent!
This thing is wonderful! I've been wanting a more reliable water filter system for quite a while and after a lot of research I decided to try this one, and I'm very pleased with the result. In addition to filtering out "forever chemicals" as well as a whole bunch of other nasty stuff it makes water that tastes great. I thought it pricey when I first started my research but now believe it's worth every penny. I also bought the stainless steel spigot with the water level indicator ball. That adds another $70+ to the overall price but again, totally worth it. It allows you to see how much water to add in without causing overflow. It's very easy to assemble (even if you do need a microscope to read the instructions) it only took about 10 minutes to get it going. The water filters through quickly but it does take a couple of run-throughs for the water to taste it's best. Highly recommend!

Strongly recommend this product.
The Berkey is the best water filter system around. I’ve had this one for years. It is stainless steel and has 3 filters in it . 2 are charcoal and one is for arsenic etc. there is a pre prep that you have to do first with the charcoal filters before u install. But once u follow those directions , you can start filtering your water immediately. This system is not cheap, given the system and then the replacement filters. But boy does it ever work! If I give you water from my tap and water from this system, boy oh boy it’s incredible of the taste difference. I live in SF. The filters last a few years but you do need to remove them to wash them off if just plain water. It’s true that u can add food coloring to this system and your water will come out crystal clear just to prove how good it is.

The Travel Berkey is the perfect size for my two teen daughters and me
I love-love-love my Travel Berkey! I have a couple of friends that have had Berkeys for years, but I had continued using Aquasana. And Aquasana did well for my family for many years; however, it did not filter fluoride and that was a concern for me. So, I decided to get the Berkey. The Travel Berkey is the perfect size for my two teen daughters and me. We use it out of the container all during the day. I refill it when needed. At night I finish emptying it into a jug and go ahead and refill it so we will have water ready for the next morning. Also, it is amazing that the Berkey is actually a water "purifier," not just a water filter. The water does taste truly wonderful. One warning here: Make sure you put the spout back into the off position before leaving the room!! I had emptied the Berkey and then poured more water in for the next day. Thankfully my daughter happened to go back into the kitchen and saw water running out onto the floor. I had left the spout open and did not realize it! There would have been a gallon of water sitting on the floor if she had not noticed it. The Travel Berkey was very easy to assemble. The instructions are easy to understand. It takes a little time (maybe 30 minutes), but it's not difficult at all. The assembly required is putting the knob on the lid, flushing out the filters before screwing them into the unit, and screwing the spout onto the unit. Everything is done by hand; no screwdrivers needed. My spout has not leaked even once, so hand tightening is definitely adequate. I have been learning about how important it is to keep my body in a slightly alkaline state, and so I really wanted my drinking water to be alkaline. Aquasana filtered water was less than 7.0 on the pH chart. I tested my Berkey water the other day and I am happy to say it was at 8.0. I know this will aid me as I continue with the challenge of staying alkaline. And lastly, the Travel Berkey really is small enough to fit in a suitcase. Of course, you might not get a week's worth of clothes in the suitcase with it, but it will fit. LOL! I am planning to take it with me next time I go to visit my mother out of town because she uses tap water to make coffee and tea and her tap water tastes terrible, besides all the nasty chemicals in the water. All in all, I love the Berkey and I plan to have one of these forever more. The packaging was perfect and it arrived right on time. I am a perfectly happy customer. And if you're wondering if I am paid or get any service for such a raving review, the answer is no. I just want to give a good review on a product I'm very happy with because I really do depend on reviews when I'm shopping around and I figure other people do as well.

Water taste is Amazing!!! Never had anything like it!!!
We are 2 seniors. We tasted the water from our daughter's Berkey. It was amazing...absolutely NO taste, just pure refreshing liquid that quenches our thirst. What is this thing??? I must admit, I about had a heart attack when I saw the price...but the filters last 6 years or more!! We did get the fluoride filters too, extra $100. Those need to be changed every year. We purchased the Travel Berkey because there are only 2 of us. I keep my old Brita pitcher, without the filter, in the refrigerator filled with Berkey water. I also use Berkey water for our daily coffee and my nasal rinse. Feel much safer now that I'm not using the tap water, we've had it since mid March '24. It was a hard decision between the Travel size and the next size up. It's not that much more for the bigger one. But, we are short people and the bigger one was that much taller to see inside for the water level. My daughter recommended purchasing the glass tube for the water level. I read all the reviews and the one comment that got me was if the glass breaks you have to buy a whole new accessory. You can't just purchase the glass tube. I am learning how much water we use but last night it overflowed just a touch so I know where I went wrong. I was nervous setting it up but with YouTube videos, I managed to get everything right on the first try!! I will say, it took several tanks to clear the filters at first, but we now have perfect water. My husband says he has never had such great water! We're both drinking more and we know it is 100% safe. Great feeling in this day and age! We will definitely continue using this product we love it!

Water tastes so much better now!
Water has never tasted so good! I am really amazed with this filter. I used a Brita pitcher for many years, but hated that it would get so gunky all the time. When I had my second son, I decided to make the switch to glass and natural items as much as possible so I chucked the Brita pitcher. I tried the Soma water pitcher, but my husband never liked it because he said the water tasted funny. After reading more in depth about Soma I found that while their product is organic, it doesn't really filter anything. Then I found this filter. It is somewhat clunky to set up, and getting the filters in does take some dexterity. But my goodness was it worth it. I feel like I'm drinking straight from a natural spring. I live in NYC so our tap water is pretty good to begin with, but this just really clears up the taste. My toddler loves this water, and drinks much more water when it's from this filter than when we buy in a store. His toddler friends also prefer to drink this water. I find I'm drinking more water because it just tastes better. It is a bit of a cost up front, but given that the regular filters last about ten years you can use this for years without an added expense. This kit also came with the chemical filters which last about six months, and at that point I will decide if I want to continue to buy those or just stick with the regular filters. I do wish it came with a stand though; I have it at the edge of my counter so that I can put a glass underneath it but now my toddler can reach and he loves to press down on the handle and see the water flow to the floor. I have found that the water does filter fairly rapidly, though I always make sure to fill it up at night so that it's fully filtered by morning. There's four of us using this during the day and it lasts for us, thought sometimes I do have to fill it in the late afternoon. I wish I had known about this filter sooner, it's the best I've every tasted.

Works great in filtering horrible tasting water
I've had my eye on this filter for around a year, but we currently have a batch of horrible tasting water in the Houston area, and I decided to go ahead and finally buy a Berkey. When I got it set up and compared between the normal tap and the Berkey, it was a night and day difference. I even took a sample of both to work and had a few people try it out there to make sure I wasn't the only one, and they could tell the difference too. The downsides of this are the speed of the filter is even slower than I imagined, and the tap location. Since the tap isn't at the very bottom, some water does sit in there without coming out when the tank is nearly empty. It would also be nice if it came with some sort of stand, as you need at least a few inches of height to get even a short cup under it. I currently have a 5" stand I had laying around, but it's not tall enough to get a 32oz nalgene bottle under it. Also, another minor complaint is you can't see what the water level is inside without removing the top part and looking, and at this price range there should be something a bit easier. 5/11/2016 update: It still is working great for me but I took the fluoride filters off several months ago. They were used up and took up too much volume of filtered water. My girlfriend liked this filter so much I ended up getting her a Royal Berkey for Christmas 2015. I would highly recommend spending a few more dollars for one of the larger Berkey filters, as even though I don't use much water, I still have to fill mine one or two times a day. I use it for drinking water for me and my dog, my girlfriend and her dog on weekends, to cook, and to make ice, coffee and tea. I haven't bought a single bottle of water since I've owned it either, but I didn't buy them often(maybe a 12 pack a year) before I owned it.

leaks, terrible instructions, over priced, pretty, update, second updated review, its perfect
this arrived reasonably prompt and packed well. It looks nice, and the size is about perfect for daily use on the counter. Three stars for that, two off for terrible instructions with faded hard to see pictures, cluttered busy instructions referencing item numbers that dont exist on the picture diagram, colored items that dont exist. They tried to deal with this by inserting a slip to better describe what they want you to do but even that is a hot mess. Priming filters was a learn on the go affair as the instructions were so bad. here it is 10 hrs later and i have still not filtered one gallon of water. Spigot leaks, I have disassembled and reassembled it numerous times. the rubber gaskets just dont fit the curve of the tank. Im leaving it in the sink to drip, tomorrow i will mcgyver better seals. really disappointed in this over priced filtration system. Will not buy again. Update: so i went on utube and found that if i switch the gaskets back they were supposed to go originally (convex gasket on front of tank, not the revised insert instructions where they say to put it inside the tank, the leaking seems to have stopped. will see. i also removed the rubber bottom liner as it just retained water spills and based on many reviews that said the tank rusted under it. i put the unit on an elevated stainless steel trivet instead so it can dry out when needed. i also reprimed the filters as one was not draining at all, using a video tip to use a plastic water bottle with hole drilled in cap to push water thru. they of course never said you needed a flat water tap to do the priming, like alot of folks i have spray nozzle on my sinks. we will see if these fixes do the job. so far its been a pain in the bottom. update: its been a week and its working pretty easy now. fits perfectly on my raised kitchen sink counter so i can place a large glass under the tap to fill. any leaks go straight in the sink but it hasnt leaked once since i fixed it. i use my spray hose tap to fill it up. very convenient. a bit taken aback that you have to use the system alot in order to keep the filters wet. so filtering a tank of water to last awhile of personal use isnt going to get it as the filter upstairs will be high and dry. so now we use the water for cooking and for my husbands tea when i would rather have saved the filters only for straight drinking water. added a star to my review and yes, you need the better tap that has fill level showing as its just a guess now when to fill up. UPDATE 3yrs later: after the initial snafu my travel berkey is still going strong. no problems whatsoever. only leaks i had was when it was overfilled and that was rare because the trick is to totally drain your berkey before refilling. this also ensures that the water is fresh and clean thru out and not collecting solids on the bottom 2in layer. to drain just tip it over slightly once it stops flowing from the spigot naturally. ive cleaned it whenever i dont hear that familiar draining sound it makes when filling an empty berkey, if the sound slows i know its time to give the filters a light scrub with a clean new sponge (the green scrubber side). other cleanings i just wipe down the inside with a clean cloth, wash the lid, spigot i wash without removing from the container as it is fiddly and you want to leave it alone to prevent leaks, see above. ive used the same filter and its still working, but i did just order a new replacement. i can tell the diff in taste if i use tap water and now that micro plastics are everywhere im so glad to have this. i did remove the bottom non skid gasket and put it on top of the lid instead, on the bottom it just collected water and started to create lime marks. its still perfectly shiny inside and out with no marks, rust, lime.

Bought this overpriced filter for my daughter
I bought this a yr and a half ago and it has yet to be used due to all the issues with it. She tinkered with it but gave up. She doesnt live near by soooo it didnt get messed with. Finally after a night from you know what..i finally have it going AGAIN. It leaked right off the bat. No matter what i did with spout..loosen nut, tighten nut..it leaked. oh the priming kit i bought direct from Berkey...forget it. the images in instructions is not the same primer that you get. Another joke and waste of money. I finally got spicket to stop leaking once i added another washer to the outside of it. As if that wasnt frustrating enough, I had to prime the filters again. Thankfully that kit did included the nipples/adapters to add into fluoride filters to prime them.THAT should have came WITH the filters when i bought them. another added expense. because that blue rubber primer doesn't fit on any sink in my house, i had to go outside with the garden hose and put it on it. As of now, I think I got it working. Here it is yr and half later. I have water filters under my kitchen sink and never in my life have i ever had so much trouble with a water filter. THEN it takes the Berkey what..an hour and a half or whatever it is..to drain the water down JUST so you can use it. NEVER EVER EVER will I buy a piece of junk like this again. And THIS is why I avoid popular brands. Overpriced and nothing but junk. I have wanted to throw this in the trash..if it wasnt so expensive. I will be looking into much better options in brands. Junk, i tell ya junk.

Fabulous water filter!
I love, love this water filter! I did a lot of research because there is fluoride in our water here. Very happy with this product and love the taste and texture of the water. It’s so great to know that all the bad stuff has been filtered out. The Travel Berkey doesn’t take up too much space and it’s perfect for me. It even looks cool. Well worth the investment. Uses no electricity and the filters do not need replacing as often as many other filters out there. There are a few good YouTube videos that help with priming the filters etc.
