BJ-5U8M-8RRM Chocolate Malt 1 lb., Brown

This black malt was black and fresh. It leant some great color and flavor to my beer. It's probably more than you need unless you are making a stout so have another beer in mind so it stays fresh.

Workslike a charm every time

I grind this into flour for the malty flavor, so I can't speak to its use in beer-making. I don't want the added sugars in most malt products, so this is what I add when baking. It seems expensive at $12/pound, but it lasts forever when you only use a teaspoon at a time. I've also been known to add it to smoothies, which is probably toxic or something, but I just love the malty, nutty flavor.

Very good product, made a Chocolate Porter and this provides just the right amount of Chocolate taste, no need for the nibs

At least 3 x stronger smoke aroma than I purchased from another supplier! But I could only give it 4 stars for not offering "Milled" option!

Personally I’ve never used this before but the bread I was making called for it. That being said I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Obviously, this can be used in beer making too - but for my use it was in a dark Nordic bread. It came out wonderful. The bread already had a slight sweet flavor- but this lent a lovely nutty slightly sweet flavor as well. Plus it provided a slightly chewy texture to the crumb. Fabulous! If you need this particular grain for your recipe- this one is great.
