Proster 6000 the "Swiss Army Knife" of DVMM's!
This is the “Swiss Army knife” of DVMMs! Okay, it may be missing one or two features, but it pretty much carries all the rest. From the start, I found the Proster DVMM 6000 to be easy to get used to after having used my 20-year-old RadioShack meter for… well, 20 years.I must admit, I was impressed with the meters quality and ‘feel’. It came with a small manual, which was sufficient to explain the different settings, a pair of well-made probes, a liquid temperature sensor probe, and a handy storage/carrying case.I compared the Proster DVMM 6000 to two other meters that I have. The RadioShack DVMM, which was RadioShack’s best meter back in 1995/97, and is also an auto range meter, but otherwise, has a lot less features than the Proster. The “other meter” (I decided not to name it in this review), I compared it with was only a few days old and it contained all the features of the Proster as well as the two features the Proster doesn’t have. However, that ‘other meter’ was not an auto range meter and as far as ‘cons’ go, a meter without the auto range feature is perhaps, carrying a “huge con”.On the other hand, auto range meters are typically 3 times slower than a ‘manual range’ meter, (at least in this price range). The Proster DVMM 6000 was faster than my RadioShack meter and both being auto range meters, I would say that’s a plus. The Proster DVMM 6000 has so many features that it’s easier to name the features that it doesn’t have. In fact, of the “popular and sought after” features, the Proster DVMM 6000 does not have a backlighting capability for its LCD screen, and it does not have the “NCV” feature, (noncontact voltage detection). The fact that the Proster does not have a backlit screen was more significant to my needs than the lack of an NCV. I do tend to use a DVMM and dim light conditions and when it came to spotting the smaller symbols, I found it difficult. However, I will say that the Proster does have a very large LCD screen, which is easy to see and read in a reasonably lit environment. The NCV feature was not really a problem for me. This feature is not reliable enough to forgo using test leads on AC power outlets to tell if it’s live or not. It so happens that the second, ‘other meter’, that I mentioned earlier, does have the NCV feature.I found the NCV feature on that meter, failed to indicate three of seven AC power outlets as “live”. Even their manual insists that the NCV feature should not be relied upon and instead, one should always use the probes to make the final determination and I tend to agree. As I said earlier, the probes included with the Proster are well made. However, as most meters sold for under $50, the Proster’s probes are not capable of accepting any other attachments or tip changes. You may want to add a higher quality pair of probes to your cart when you purchase a meter. Otherwise, you won’t be able to add alligator and small-wire test clips & leads. As far as accuracy goes, I was able to confirm with reasonable confidence, that the Proster DVMM 6000 was more accurate than the RadioShack meter. However, I must point out that I have no equipment certified to test DVMM accuracy. I used a comparative test method for acquiring my results. I applied my single function generator, my DC voltage power supply, and several different “precision resistors”, (which had a very tight deviation tolerance), to make the final assessment.Between that and the fact that the RadioShack meter has been in use for over 20 years, I feel confident that the discrepancy between the two meters was due to the inaccuracy of the RadioShack meter. The Proster seems to be within the tolerances specified in the manual.I gave the Proster 5-Stars because I was not only impressed with it; I was impressed with Proster’s customer support and communication. I had the opportunity to experience this first hand when I contacted them with several questions.I definitely recommend the Proster DVMM 6000 for anyone who’s trying to keep their purchase of a decent DVMM under $50.00 and likes to know that there is a solid, fast responding customer support in Proster’s infrastructure.Rich

Good feature set & decent accuracy at a great price!
When my trusty old DMM (a Kelvin Pro 400 purchased in 1990) started showing signs of impending trouble a few months ago, I started looking for a new meter that offered similar functions, knowing I wasn't going to buy anything in the price range of a Fluke meter. Most meters include a set of basic functions like voltage, resistance and current measurement, with either manual or auto range settings. The real fun begins when comparing the "extra" stuff each meter adds, and deciding which one has what you need/want without paying for a bunch of extras you aren't likely to use.Based on reviews here and recommendations from reliable web sources, I was ready to go with an Extech EX330, but then I found this VC99, and I'm glad I gave Proster a chance - I like what I see so far.Besides the usual voltage, resistance and current measurement functions, the diode test, transistor hFE and audio continuity tone are a must for me. The rest is gravy, but I definitely like the analog bar-graph display for better indication of signal "peaking" when tuning things, and the min/max data hold and Auto-range are useful too. I may not use the Frequency and capacitance functions very often, but they are nice to have.All-in-all, this meter has advertised accuracy specs similar to the EX330, and adds features the 330 doesn't include, for less money.Update: One thing I will definitely look for in any future DMM is a back-lit display. For me, that has become almost as much a necessity as the audible continuity test function.

Lots of value for the price
I have used this model for about 2 years now. It is plenty accurate for 99% of what is needed of a multi-meter, even on an electronics bench. One thing I learned about mine is that the pair of AA should be replaced before the battery indicator on the meter face says so. Mine starting behaving a little erratically a couple months back and it would not let me select any of the functions of the buttons like range...instead it would appear to do a reset and come up in auto. Still seemed to be accurate though. I checked the batteries (the originals) and they were down to 2.5V total so I swapped in a fresh set. Problem solved.

Great meter, great functionality, great price
As an electronics technician working both in the field and at the bench in my shop I need a meter with all the functions supported by this meter. You could spend a lot more on a name brand equivalent but it wouldn't be any more reliable, accurate, or robust than this Proster VC99.The probes that come with it are okay for light or occasional duty, but like most techs I have my own set of high quality expensive probes anyway. I bought this item for the meter itself, and consider low cost probes a disposable item.I noted some reviews commenting on the bare bones instructions and user manual. If you already know how to use any digital meter with similar functions then you shouldn't really need an instruction manual for this one. If you are a beginner then there are plenty of online resources to learn how to use a meter, what all the functions are for, and etc.I've only been using it for a few weeks. I don't anticipate any problems but if any develop I'll update this review. Unless that happens, I highly recommend this meter to anyone looking for an item like it.The customer service from ProsterUS was great. They contacted me personally by email to make sure that I received the product in a timely fashion and that it met my expectations, and I was happy with it, or to let them know so they could resolve any issues if I had any.Yes, I purchased this item for myself with my own money and, no, I did nor receive any discount or whatever for my favorable review.
