Yes. It is important to wash the Butter Bell crock upon receiving it and before using it. In fact, it is recommended to wash in between uses to make sure the interior of the lid is clean and dry before adding the butter.

Do it work with “whipped butter”?

You can put whipped butter in it but its for hard butters to keep it soft. Whipped is already spreadable. Real butter is hard and unspreadable unless room temp. The butter is kept in the bell to keep it room temp and fresh.
