The chute can detach from the belt by opening up the buckle and sliding the ring off of it. It doesn't have a carabiner on it but one could certainly be used if you have one available.

The JAWKU Speed Parachute has a 56” canopy and has a resistance of 25 to 35lbs. The resistance can reach up to 55lbs with a head-wind.

Age and weight for use suggested..son is 9 and 60lbs. Will this work or is it too big?

Yes, this most certainly can be used by children. The belt can be adjusted to fit smaller people. Your son may find it difficult when running into a stiff wind, but maybe that is the point. Either way, ought to be a fun way to exercise!
