I scored it with a utility knife then broke it, very easy. For cutting small areas like around molding you can cut it with a scissor, mostly for trimming edges not large pieces.

Could these be mounted over 4x4 tile such as the tile used in a bathroom?

These work best when the underlying surface is flat and smooth. I wouldn’t recommend applying this directly on top of a surface covered with 4x4 tiles.
