Tried 3 others - this is easily the best of all
Tried loads of these, owned others, three of the touchscreen options out there on amazon, this oakcastle is easily the best, this is the smallest little thing, absolutely tiny, but works great, a proper click to buttons, you know when you've pressed a button, seems obvious to say, but you need to know when you have pressed a button (or not) when playing music, the touchscreen models are too temperamental for this, there is no confidence when pressing buttons on the touchscreen models, but the oakcastle gives you that physical confidence (knowing that a click means an action is performed & completed) - a click suffices nicely. The playlist option is just great, very easy to do. The display is brilliant, much better than an album cover (imo) the display is a graphic equaliser moving image with song info also on screen. I have got over 800 320 kbps large file size music on this so far and still plenty of GB room left. Added a 64gb card fr a tenner into this machine so now will store loads and loads. In ear sound quality - brilliant, very clear, can hear music notes in this that were absent on other (soft touch screen options here on amazon.) Playing out loud: Perfect - especially with soundmotion boom I have. Would work great with JBL, Sony, W-king, Bose and other quality bluetooth speakers out there too. Works in car too, I have it plugged in to a male to male aux lead. This is the best and most dinky of all the mp3/bluetooth transmitters that I've tried here on the net.(which is a fair old few) Highly recommend this tiny, honest and great performing little gizmo for bluetooth speakers.

Does play m4a!
I ordered this item a few weeks back after hunting around for a cheap and lightweight music player with decent storage as an alternative to my iphone which never has enough storage for music. Thus far very pleased with this wee player. First of all, it is tiny and very light... much smaller than the impression given by the picture. Device is matchbox size, and I was a bit underwhelmed by the teeny bit of plastic I unwrapped for the £20 odd quid spent. However, for the price point, 8GB of storage (expandable by microSD) is great value. Menu system is easy, I am only using for music and have no plans to look at photos or files on this tiny machine. Uploading files is simply drag and drop, as you would on a USB flash drive, and provided your ID3 info on files is correct, the device will organise by album, artist etc. I have not attempted to build my own playlists yet. Most importantly I feel, other FAQs mention compatibility with m4a Apple music files. The seller says no, but m4a is just Apple's file wrapper for AAC-LC files. This does play AAC-LC, and so all the m4a files I dropped in were recognised and play perfectly, which is good, as I ripped quite a bit through itunes AAC back in the day, and the format sounds more naturalistic to me than mp3 unless the bitrate is very high. Battery life is great (I use wired headphones, so can't compare wireless buds), and sound quality is fine, in my view, this is more an issue of bitrate encoded and decent earbuds rather than a device issue at this entry level. Pretty happy!

Superb little MP3/FLAC player
Costing £19.98 with a discount and £5 voucher ( promotional for the bank holiday I think) I was very pleased with this player. Before I start I should state that I have congenital hearing loss so my hearing isn't the best - perhaps someone with perfect hearing may think the sound quality isn't that great, but Im very happy with it - also with the volume - it goes loud enough for me to be able to hear clearly and enjoy both music and spoken word. Sound is clear ( delivered through my Panasonic RP-HT7X headphones) The controls take a little bit of getting used to being dark grey on black they are not the easiest to see in low light. The display is good - not sure I would want to read a book on it, but it is offered as an option, as is watching video files. Ive loaded mine up with a 64 GB TF card with a mix of folders with spoken word and music. I have not yet got around to creating playlists but as I tend to put "mixes" into folders its probably something I wouldnt bother with anyway. Battery life seems quite good - 5 hours including some fiddling about with the player and the display being on a lot. The FM radio has quite poor reception indoors, but good outdoors. YMMV on this of course. I cant really see me using the pedometer, nor the record function as it only records from an in built microphone not from the radio. Im pleased that for sub £20 it plays a variety of music formats including FLAC, so many of my archived files I dont have to convert ( though FLAC does take up more memory space than MP3). Overall quite a nice little MP3 player for the money. Apparently comes with a 3 year guarantee too.

Very good. And good value.
I thought this would be good value, but it's just a quality device regardless of relative comparisons. Volume is fuller than anything I've used before and the sound detail is particularly good. The shape doesn't sound overly flat, but it is not heavily biased - open sounding with clarity. The bluetooth earbuds I've tried with it were picked up without fault and playback was without lag, though I just happen to prefer the sound of my wired buds as most bluetooth earphones are designed for chatting with and are poor for quality audio playback. I don't need it to read txt files or playback video but the included Tom and Jerry clip was an amusing choice. It's clip is going strong so far as well. The only improvement I can think of could be a custom option for the equalizing feature. But then I never use those any way as I much prefer a consistent clean feed - which Oakcastle got right with this device in my view. To colour or shape the response, various speaker options is best. Overall the convenience of use and quality is excellent. Cheers folks.

Excellent player
Received the player not really recalling its size. It is so small and light. Really pleasantly surprised. It took about ten minutes to go through its operation then it proved itself to be so versatile. So much packed in a small unit. It sounds very good on audio. Display is great. The processor is a little slow but easy enough to use. The clip on the back is so useful to use on clothing and not to be noticeable weight wise. You get a gel case, headphones, charge cable. All of this for an extremely low price. An excellent player all round. One note to bear in mind. The player plays only MP3 files over Bluetooth. Otherwise MP3 and AAC files play with wired headphones.

Good player - sad ending
Bought to replace a similar player, from Amazon, which lasted six months before failing to charge. I used the Oakcastle to listen to podcasts whilst commuting and it was excellent, reasonably user-friendly and pretty sharp all-around. However, after a month of minimal use it also failed to charge despite my using a variety of leads. It also, rather alarmingly, heated up when it was on a charge lead to the extent that you couldn't actually pick it up and could smell heated plastic. Not too clever especially if I had left it charging unattended. Shame, as the player itself was very good while it lasted. Returned for refund. I would buy another but not sure if I can trust this product now which is a shame. As a follow up I should say that I gave this player the benefit of the doubt and purchased another. Bad decision as, three weeks after the return date expired, it stopped working. Heated up again and now I cannot even then it off although none of the functions are working. I have to conclude that this is a poor product and is a complete waste of money which is a shame as for the brief periods they actually worked they were fine.

Pretty good but could be better
Overall it’s not terrible, sound quality is reasonable, battery life is pretty good too. It could do with a firmware update to remove that awful fake spectrum analyser when playing a track and make the now playing texts bigger, also a custom option on the graphic equaliser would be good rather than just the presets so you could adjust the graphic to your own taste and have the folder view list in alphabetic order, I’ve had no problems using the Bluetooth connectivity it seems solid enough, main peeves are with the main play display text being to small and the lack of custom adjustable graphic equaliser. Good enough for the price.

Tiny, easy to use and practical mp3 player
I was surprised at just how small and light this mp3 player is - see included picture. I chose this player because of the clip, which means I can clip it onto my waist band whilst doing jobs and working out. This means the device is constantly accessible and doesn't get in the way - unlike pocket devices. The sound quality is really good (but this is always more ear phone dependent), and the on-screen user interface is easy to use. The lock button on the side of the player is a great feature as this stops accidental volume and track adjustments. But the lock feature is also my only real gripe with the player; When you lock and unlock the device using the side button, a little on screen animation kicks in which takes a second or two to complete. I've found this to be a little annoying when you want to quickly change track or adjust the volume - you have to wait for the animation to complete first. The buttons below the screen are not back-lit which can make them hard to see in the dark. Some better and clear markings on the buttons (that glow in the dark perhaps) would have been better. But with everything I like about the player in mind, as well as the fantastic price, I can only recommend it to others who have the same needs as me.
