What triggers this,it is magnetic itself. Hooked a continuity tester to it and it showed circut closed then set a magnet 1/8" in front still closed?

It needs a strong magnet for pick up. And will need to be closer then a 1/8". If you swing it pass the magnet and watch the tester it will spike on and off.
