Xbox One Wireless Controller (Without 3.5 millimeter headset jack)

I like to play my games with controller on PC. I've used controllers from PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii U, Steam, Xbox One and my favorite is Xbox One. It is more comfortable on my hands, buttons feel closer to fingers, the triggers have a really good feeling and their impulse feature (motor vibrating at each trigger) is awesome. The fact that it uses simple AA batteries and you can use rechargeable ones, makes life a lot easier to swap them when they are low or get damaged. My PS3's built in batteries are dead, they won't turn on or charge, my PS4s don't last more than 4 hours and after that I need to plug them and play with the cable in the middle, and probably in a couple of years they will be dead as my PS3s. I prefer easy removable batteries for this reason and because I can get AA rechargeable batteries with more capacity than built-in ones. Overall, you will get the best experience using Xbox controllers, and in some specific cases, the Steam one.

I don't own an Xbox One, so this review is mainly aimed at PC gamers: First of all, Microsoft released official PC drivers that allow you to connect an Xbox One controller (they're all both wireless and wired) to a PC using a micro-USB 2.0 cable. The drivers are on Windows Update at the time of this writing (July 2014), and using the USB cable seems to turn it into a pure, no-batteries-needed wired controller. It is also said to be compatible with all existing games that work with the Xbox 360 controller. From a speedrunner's perspective, the reduced dead zones on the joysticks, the wired responsiveness (I used to use wireless 360 controllers), and the more comfortable grip are awesome features of the Xbox One's controller. Oh, and the D-Pad. The D-Pad is amazing, wonderful, and a huge improvement over the 360's, especially if you're fond of Nintendo's D-Pads (they're very similar). I'd recommend trying one of these at a local game shop before buying here (Amazon's price is notably lower) to make sure you like it. It feels different from an Xbox 360 controller, so if you're coming from that it might be feel a bit weird at first. For me, the Xbox One controller is definitely more comfortable than its predecessor, and I only wish it were backwards compatible on console!

Overall it's a high‑quality, reliable gamepad that delivers excellent value. The ergonomic design feels comfortable even during long sessions, the textured thumbsticks and responsive d‑pad offer crisp control, and the innovative Impulse Triggers add satisfying fingertip vibration feedback that enhances immersion. I also appreciate the built‑in 3.5 mm headset jack and the convenience of wireless firmware updates. On the downside, the lack of built‑in Bluetooth means you’ll need the Xbox Wireless Adapter (or a micro‑USB cable) to use it with PC, an extra purchase that’s a minor inconvenience for wireless gamers. Despite that, it’s a solid, premium controller that justifies a near‑perfect score.

The Xbox One controller is a small refinement to an already excellent design, it’s not so much an evolution as the Dual Shock 4 was for the PlayStation 4. The batteries for the device now fit seamlessly into the design, no longer protruding out. Using two standard AA batteries I have yet to drain them in well over a week’s worth of playtime, it’s quite impressive. The thumbsticks are more rigid, solid, and less slippery than before. The triggers feel good, though the bumper’s new clicky design I like slightly less. It’s weird to not have a start and option button, instead two strange symbols adorn the controller where they’d normally be. The d-pad is a big improvement as well, though it does have a cheap plasticy feel to it. The biggest change to the controller isn’t the most obvious one. It’s the inclusion of rumble into the triggers themselves. It’s damn amazing. You’ll feel tires slip and grip in Forza 5 or you’ll feel the band of the bow as you release an arrow in Ryse. It’s similar to old school PC gaming force feedback, but not as pronounced and definitely more detailed. I like the Xbox One controller a bit more than the original Xbox 360, though I do feel at times my hands get fatigued faster.

Fantastic controller. I had a 360 wired controller for years and with the Xbox it worked perfectly but every time I played with the old controller on the PC it would switch from player 1 to player 2 and 4...bought three controllers and used them on multiple computers. Never fixed it. SO I bought this controller crossing my fingers that Microsoft would have fixed the issue...AND THEY DID. No more issues with the controller I can play anything and never have to worry about faulty drivers or the low quality of the device. Now the Next Gen Controllers look and feel like a true winner. I have some minor gripes with it, mainly the weird thumb-stick covers but you can get cheap covers for a buck online so other then that the Triggers are significantly better giving the user more space to maneuver. The D-Pad has been completely redesigned and I can tell you even if you dont think it will make a difference simply moving through windows or inventory screens has become a dream. Weird not having a Start and Select button but tis the future so might as well have some random icons. I wish they would remove the XBox branding and leave it as a Microsoft Product. Same goes for the consoles Microsoft One sounds a hell of a lot better than Xbox One.
