Can this be used as a big tea bag?

A VERY big tea bag. I have used it to hold the grains for brewing beer and used a corner of it in a pitcher (with the rest folded down) to hold some dry ingredients to make a mixed drink with tequila.

Is this a good bag for compost tea brewing for plants? Is the mesh fine enough to hold the compost? Thanks.

The mesh is very fine. I dont know if this product will hold up to composting but the price is great so probably worth a try. They are great for brewing.

Can the brew bag be used as a nut bag strainer?

I have only used it for grapes and other fruits. The mesh is quite fine, but with fruit, the rest of the fermentation process requires "racking" which siphons the liquid off the sludge. When straining nuts for milk, I believe you could do an initial strain with the bags. They are huge, so you would be doing about 16-20 quarts of pulp which could make them too awkward for smaller quantities. However, even if you plan on such a large batch, I believe they would allow too much debris for a good finished product. I would plan on a secondary strain through a much finer mesh . . . Like a new pair of panty hose or a large funnel insert with a 400 mesh or finer. So yes,and no. For myself, I would use them to quickly go through big batches, but finish off with a second strain through the finest mesh I could find to insure a smooth, residue-free (as much as possible) end product. I used one of these bags to filter a burned bread amino sauce and it worked great for the initial filtering process. I wanted something finer than cheese cloth but not so fine as a jelly bag and this fit that space perfectly. I was able to pour the sauce through the filter bag fairly quickly to remove most of the sediment. I did have to run the sauce through a jelly bag to remove additional sediment, but having removed most of it with this filter made that process easier. The bags seem to be sturdy and well made and it cleaned up very easily. They fit snuggly around the rim of a 2 gallon bucket and are about as deep as the bucket.
