No no need for a card - sorry I haven't used for 2 hours so don't know how long it goes for - very good though.

Yes it has different settings for different sounds and records to quite a good quality.

what's the polar pattern on the mic?

Sorry have not been able to use since purchase due to ill health..cannot respond to polar pattern but through out the years that I have had to use for work situations many more expensive..This ticks all the boxes at a fraction of the cost.and with mic that attaches to clothing very discreet and smaller device able to continue with other tasks while talking into dictaphone easy to charge usb no batteries needed so though I can't answer your original question I'm sure that a generic brand works as well than many a more popular brand
