Shake: A New Perspective on Cocktails

I bought this from Salt & Sundry at Union Market in DC a couple months ago for my coworkers birthday. They only had two copies (I'm assuming advanced orders). After giving the coworker the gift I immediately wanted to go back and get a copy for myself but it was sold out. I checked Amazon and realized that it was yet to be released. I was pretty jealous of my coworker so my only option was to preorder it from here. Pros: - Simple recipes - Great Photography - Nice Layout (Drinks divided into the seasons) - Limited Ingredients - Good Variety - Delicious Cocktails Cons: - I should've bought 2 copies from the beginning Overall, this is a great cocktail book with simple, easy to make drinks. I'd highly recommend this to both people that are inexperienced with mixing and seasoned vets. They explain the recipes well while also keeping them simple.

This is a great book that I use often. The book's philosophy is just like mine: "Drinking should be fun, simple, and social". And true to form, the book delivers on its promise. Not only is the book itself beautiful to hold and behold (the cover has great "feel" and the pictures are simple but stunning), but the drinks are easy to make, fun, and definite crowd-pleasers. Whether you muddle and mix at home for your own pleasure (you can make a drink with dinner in mere minutes), or if you bring it along to a party and mix with friends, you're sure to be satisfied. Makes a great gift too.

Okay, so I'll admit that I haven't made anything out of the book - I purchased it as a gift for my sister. But, it's absolutely stunning, and having experience bartending a bit, I'd say every recipe I've looked at looks wonderful. The ingredients are generally simple and common in most markets, the layout is just beautiful, and the directions are concise and clear. I bought this along with a larger, more thorough manual about making drinks and it makes a nice, fun accompaniment. The drinks are clearly based off of classics but with a bit of a creative twist. Definitely recommend this book. I don't really drink alcohol, but now I want to purchase a copy so I can make drinks too.

Creative cocktail book. Simplifies several standard activities required for most drinks, such as "ice" and "shaking times". I also bought their very cool mason jar shaker, which I now use all the time.

This is a great book: beautiful photos and fabulous cocktail recipes. Love it!

We love that the recipes say exactly how to build the drink instead of just listing the ingredients. There are also recommendations on what brands to buy, all of which we have liked. I bought this for my sister for a gift as well since we enjoy it so much.

I bought this book as a gift for my brother, who has a bar in his home and loves cocktails. Before giving it to him, I browsed through the book. I was really impressed with the physical presence of the book - the photography is gorgeous, very modern and clean, and the cover, binding, and paper are all fantastic quality. It's a book that exudes polish and sophistication. It would look great on your bookshelf or coffee table and makes for an impressive-looking gift. I didn't try out the cocktails myself, but every few weeks I get a text or phone call from my brother when he makes a new one. He's loved every single one that he tried, and he's getting a lot of use out of the book. He particularly liked the Mid-Winter Marg and the Blackberry Fence Hoppers.

I got this book for my boyfriend for Christmas after seeing it in a bookstore months before that. I thought the book was beautiful, with amazing photos and great descriptions. The drinks we have made out of it so far are delicious, and the simple instructions and innovative ingredients really make it a joy to create them. We had such a great time making these drinks, that we decided to get the mason jar shaker as well!

Excellent variety of cocktails. Most are easy to make! I really like that there are a set number of different types of alcohol that you need to make all the drinks!!
