So you just developed an awesome soap or cosmetic product. You gave it out to friends and family who raved about it and urged you to put it on the market. You checked on what that would take and thatโs when you hit the wall of rules and regulations. Thud! Does that mean youโve hit a dead end? Absolutely not! In Soap & Cosmetic Labeling , author Marie Gale clearly explains the different rules and regulations that apply to labeling soaps and cosmetics and other related products. As she says, โgetting the labeling right isn't very complicated... but it is very detailed.โ This book explains, in plain English, how to follow product labeling rules and regulations from: Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act Fair Packaging and Labeling Act Uniform Weights & Measures Law Uniform Packaging and Labeling Regulations State Laws ... and more! The 3rd edition has been updated to include more images, diagrams and examples, more explanations - particularly for true soap - and more background on the actual laws and regulations and how they came into being. In all, the 3rd edition contains 38 more content pages. Whether youโre an old hand or a newcomer to the business of soap and cosmetics, youโll find the information presented here clear and easy to understand, and Soap & Cosmetic Labeling an excellent guide through the maze of labeling regulations. Review: My cosmetic labeling bible - Love this book! It outlines the history and reasoning behind labeling requirements and walks you through who regulates what as well as what your label should have on them. If you are looking to start your own cosmetic business, I highly suggest this book for your reference! Note: This book focuses on USA regulations. Review: Seriously...do not create any cosmetic labels until you've read this book...and buy the hard copy, not an electronic version - Great book! If you are new to labeling cosmetics don't do anything until you've read this book! I'm serious...this saved me from a whole host of mistakes that could have ended up being costly both financially & to my brand. It's a quick well-organized read, so you have very little to lose by taking an hour to read this! I rarely buy actual books anymore, but I got the paperback for this one & I'm so glad I did. It's the kind of book you read, re-read, write notes in & refer to over & over. Thank you for such a succinct & useful manual...who knows how much cost & headache this little book has saved me!?!

Essential if you make and sell cosmetics or aromatherapy products
This book was SO helpful for me in starting out with my aromatherapy business. The FDA regs are incredibly complex and difficult to wade through (at least for me). This book provides lots of visual aids such as pictures of how large the text needs to be on your labels and exactly what needs to be included. In addition, they explain the difference between a cosmetic and a drug. You cannot say that your blend eases pain, aids in treating insomnia, or reduces the inflammation of arthritis if you are not marketing your product as a drug and going through the drug approval process. I see so many mismarketed and mislabeled products out there, making drug related claims. This book will help you avoid those mistakes - and having the FDA slap a hefty fine on you.

Very Informational
Very informational and technical. This is a book you settle in with for a couple hours and take lots of notes. It gives tons of terrific advice and information about labeling, I just wish it was updated a bit more for the times. If you are planning on having a business whether making soap or any sort of cosmetic--you should definitely buy this book.

It is easy to understand
The author is not a lawyer, but I am (although not in this area of expertise which is why I bought this book), and I can say that it is well written, clear, concise and well organized. It is easy to understand, especially for the lay person. You definitely need the information in this book if you are crafting your own products. I know I will be referring to it regularly as I make my soaps and skin care products. Even if you are only crafting for fun, e.g., for gift giving and not selling retail, your products will look more professional if they are labelled properly. This book gives you all of the information you need to do that.

I needed this information for labeling products for consumers....
Lots of detailed information about creating the correct label for products you sell. You do not realize how important it is to have a label that is up to code according to the FDA and others. A must read before you print that label and slap it on a product. Just because you think the label looks amazing, you would be surprised how wrong your label may be. Marie lays it all out in great detail written very well where you can do this yourself. By following certain requirements that not many people, even a large corporation, may not know. You will find yourself reading labels on products going aha! that label is so wrong! This book may save you many problems later on. I really really recommend it to anyone who is in business and sells a product with a label.

Worth the price
I waited quite a while before shelling out the money for this book as I felt that I could find what I needed online. Well, the book was worth it because Gale addresses every question you might have in a very clear, concise way. If you want to sell your products and label them correctly, just bite the bullet and buy this book. It is worth every penny.
