API REEF MASTER TEST KIT Reef Aquarium Water Test Kit 1-Count

Great basic test kit, fairly easy to read results. A couple of the tests can use quite a bit of drops and I wish they were bigger bottles but at least they can be purchased separately. I find that the less I mess with my tank the healthier it is. This helps me keep an eye on things:)

I have used Salifert, Elos, Redsea and a bunch of others. While it's really hard to guage the accuracy of all these kits, one can assume at least +/- 10% readings. With the API kit I see small enough changes reflected in the readings to give me confidence that it's within the ball Park of ELOS and Salifert, so at a the current price API is a clear winner. I also like that these tests are simpler to preform than most of the others, so thats a real plus.

Been using this brand testing kit for as long as I have had a saltwater fish tank, which is about 30 years. I spent alot of money on the Hannah Instruments Checkers and still revert back to this testing kit. Tried and true - easy to use. I just wish of the test kit I need, that they would make the reef kit with added ph along with the nitrate, calcium, alkalinity and phosphate. I had to order their other test kit (saltwater kit) which had ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph basically just to get the ph test. Since my tank is set up and well established, I don’t really need to test for ammonia and nitrite. I will use the nitrate though. As a side note, the Hannah Checker test kits are nice for actual numbered results, but these API kits give you a quick snapshot of results without a lot of steps, unless you test for calcium and alkalinity which require a series of drops to get to your endpoint colors. Still easy to use though.

This kit is very accurate as mentioned in the title and is cheaper than my local fish store. I only wish that they included a second pipette.

It's a spot test kit for average reef keeping, on sift corals. But, you would need a higher test kit if your growing/keeping stoney corals.

I had read tons of reviews on test kits but couldn't stomach the sticker shock of the so called better kits. I had always used api for fresh water and thought wth ill just get it for my reef as well. I wish I had bought the more expensive kits looking back. I assume it's accurate but not necessarily precise. You match it up as best you can to the color chart and kind of get a ball park reading when things aren't matching up well. Oh did that change at 7 or 8 drops. Is that really blue or kinda light blue or? Did i do the stupid nitrate test correctly or did i not shake it up enough again? These are the questions that I constitently ask myself using the kit. I havent really used any other test kits so many this is just par for the course but I have a bit of buyers remorse.
