SABRENT USB 2.0 to DB25 IEEE-1284 Parallel Printer Adapter (CB-DB25)

The cable arrived within days of placing the order. However, I had not yet bought the computer yet, so this review got delayed. This cable allowed me to connect a 25+ year old HP 5L personal laser printer to a fairly recent Windows 11 Dell AIO with no parallel port, nor any slot with which to install one. The HP 5L is fussy about having all of the lines enabled for enhanced bidirectional parallel communications and not all USB-to-parallel cables support this. Sabrent apparently does and my ancient printer is back in action on a computer that normally couldn’t work with such an old device. Two things: First, I reused a fully enabled normal parallel cable to connect to the Sabrent USB-to-parallel port cable’s parallel port. Second, Windows 11 provided all of the required drivers for the cable and the printer. I only needed to make sure that the HP 5L was seen as a USB device during the automatic discovery and setup. I did not need a driver disc.

This was my second choice. The first one I tried was from a different manufacturer and would not retain the driver when the usb cable was disconnected from the computer and reinserted. It also required downloading and installing a driver for the specific operating system being used. Out of the 20 times I tried, rebooted, removed and reinstalled driver it only functioned twice so it was returned after I plugged this one in and it sensed and loaded the necessary driver without having to separately perform the action. I tested it by removing and reinstalling the usb and it continued to function. After reinstalling the driver for the printer and configuring for my purposes everything worked fine. Did have some difficulty getting the printed to function as I wanted but that was not due to this converter. Very happy with this and should have ordered it as the first one.

Needed a replacement after my old one finally had too many cuts

I just received the product, and it seems to be a quality product, and will allow me to hook up and old Laser Jet printer to my new computer. It also comes with a good length of cable that will come in handy in any situation that I need for locating the Laser Jet printer. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong adapter. The correct part is SABRENT USB to Parallel IEEE 1284 Printer Cable Adapter (CB-CN36). Amazon was quick to refund for the mistaken part order, and deliver the correct part quickly.

Perfect item working well with my old HP LaserJet 2100 printer!

Did not allow a parallel scanner (Canoscan FB620P) to be recognized in Windows 10 64bit. Also prevented the computer from powering up when plugged in!

Works nicely most of the time. Sometimes after a boot of the computer, the printer won't work, so we have to unplug the usb and re-connect to get the printer to work. Although it was nice not having to purchase a new receipt printer that had usb functionality.

Great value, perfect length, easy installation great value and quantity. Still trying to get new laptop to work with older technology

Good quality but brought wrong one

Un câble indispensable pour réutiliser une imprimante toujours opérationnelle mais équipée d'un port parallèle. Un peu de recherche pour identifier le nouveau port USB créé mais passé cette étape l'imprimante a fonctionné instantanément !

Se instaló con los drivers propios de Windows 10, no tuve que buscar drivers adicionales. Apareció como USB printer en la categoría de impresoras de Windows.

The quality was good but did not for the application I needed it for. My fault for ordering the worms item.
