Double Hung Window Jamb-Liner (70")

These will not support a standard old wood double hung window from falling shut if it has been raised to be open . This is so because normally when they are installed the old rope pulley and weight system is removed . Only solution I could come up with was to supply props to manually place under the window sash to support it when open . Also I think many people might does as i did and not disturb the upper sash because they are usually long since stuck in place by old caulk and [lead based ]paint . So I very carefully cut each track in half vertically and only used it in the inner bottom sash track . So all in all , they are not a great fix for old drafty double hung wood windows, but they do cut down a good bit of the air movement past the sash . and look better . I have used these in historic neighborhoods where preserving historic details is valued . And they are way cheaper than new windows . They work best when they are paired with good quality triple track storm windows .

My windows were from 1970 and had aluminum tracks. The existing tracks had been destroyed by years of bad tenants and lack of maintenance. These were a direct replacement. A couple windows had to be adjusted with a belt sander to fit. We also coated the tracks with silicone lubricant (made for garage doors) so the windows would slide more easily.
