Mine has the magnet and stick bend also. My Bluetooth range is somewhere around 50 ft or so through normal wood walls. Works great.

will it stay easily in side an air vent?

It comes with a magnetic collar. I find it stays nicely on all types of tin just put the tip through a 1/4" hole in the duct (easily plugged or covered when your done) and let the collar do it's job. I got two so I can do real time we and dry bulb delta T. It also has a magnet in the Handel. However, if you want to place the whole unit in the vent it will not read as well as the probe is ment to be perpendicular to the airflow.
