Is this good for surface mount IC replacement rework?

It works ok the heat transfer is good and it does come with alot of different attachments. I did manage to accidentally burn the heat gun element but I found the replacement element for 8 dollars on ebay so it saved me. I actually like this unit but it is a lower standard from paying hundreds of dollars for basically a unit that does same thing. It's all in how it's taken care of. I recommend for small projects. I use mine in phones and tablets. I have not tried errors yet

what is the goal post looking tool for?

To remove or set small chips on board while heating, similar to using tweezers.

How long is the warranty?

1 year but the soldering tip's ceramic insert has no warranty. You just gotta make sure it is tight before each use as it gets loose from temperature change. Do not overtightened it either as it can break very easily.
