Great investment
I love this pump. Replacing the old pump was simple. I really didn’t understand why it is worth the cost or how it runs so quietly and does the job until I saw how effective and efficient it is. The old pump ran flat out all the time while this one keeps the pool clear and clean at half the speed and energy consumption. The control panel is exceptional — large, attractive easy to read. It can be turned in any of four directions and it can be removed and wall hung. They really put a lot of thought into the design. I find this kind of UI — (<>+-) confusing and I still can’t figure out the timer. Fortunately the presets work fine. But changing the speed and function on the fly is just a matter of pressing a button. “Quick Clean” runs the vacuum and skimmer for an hour at top speed.

Great pump, instructions are lacking
My noisy 1.24hp Jandy pump finally burned out, replaced it with this maxflo VS. I upgraded my filter at the same time, so it took a weekend to do the install and electrical. The suction is powerful, it runs my Polaris Atlas XT great even on low speed setting which is virtually silent. I did a wall mount without the optional wall mount kit. Here are my tips for a successful install: 1. Apply ptfe lubricant on the union orings to prevent leaks 2. When doing a wall mount without the optional kit, take detailed notes/pictures of the wire connections BEFORE replacing the 6 inch wire between the pump and display and reinstalling the 4 wire connectors (I used cat5 wire and an inexpensive weatherproof box) 3. For some reason my pump came the dip switch set to 1 and 2 positions on.. ONLY the 1 position should be on, all others off if you want the display to work properly

Quiet, efficient pump
Replaced a 7 year old single speed pump with this variable speed pump. Installation was relatively simple, although I did have to replumb because the inlets and outlets didn’t match up. Even with new plumbing and some electrical rework, it only took a couple of hours to install. I configured the pump to be controlled by an external controller and it was easy enough to set up. In fact, it worked on the first try. The instructions on how to set the pump’s serial bus address could have been clearer, though. With the pump now up and running, I regret not installing a variable speed pump sooner. At max speed it’s much quieter than my old pump, but at 50-75% speed you can barely hear it running. It also reports its real-time electricity usage, so you can easily see the relationship between pump speed and electricity usage (it’s much more efficient from an energy perspective to run at lower speeds for longer, which is why VS pumps are the new norm). Overall, very pleased so far. The real test will be in a few years. I have a saltwater pool and it’s eventually rusted out previous pumps.

Warranty not respected by Hayward because we 'bought online'
Installation is easy. My pump worked great for literally 5 minutes, then it died. It turns out the entire power head needed to be replaced. I did not do the return through Amazon because of the large restocking fee I'd have to pay, so I went through with a warranty claim. Hayward customer service gets zero stars. I waited in the Hayward call queue for 2 hours before giving up and asking their automated service to call me when someone becomes available. I made this request multiple times. To this moment they have still not returned my call. When I submitted a request online it took them days to get back to me and they just gave me a link to their dealer locator tool. It turns out my pool service company is also a local dealer for Hayward. My company came out and said the power head needed to be replaced on this 2-day old pump. Clearly a dud from the factory. My pool company fought with Hayward on my behalf to expedite the warranty claim, but Hayward refused to pay for the labor to replace the pump head 'because the pump was purchased online'. Now I'm out of pocket another $200. Now that the pump is running I can say I'm happy with the unit. I'm coming from a 1.5 HP single speed. This 1.65hp variable speed is as loud as the old one when it's on the highest speed, but anything below that speed it is whisper quiet. I worry about how long it will last with a warranty replacement power head, and I'm more worried about getting ANY help from Hayward should it fail again within warranty. Overall I regret my choice to get this Hayward pump and if I had it to do all over I'd go with a different company.

Download the User Manual
Very quiet operation, Have the ability to adjust the length of time of four different running speeds. Should be able to determine over time the best combination (time & speed) to maintain the performance of my old single speed pump while achieving lower operating cost. Recommend you visit Hayward's web page and download the user manual. It's a much better source on information than what was contained in the box.

Disappointed with Packing
The Product came in the original factory box that was in a very large box with no packing around it to keep it from moving around inside the large box. So when the postman, who was carrying it on his shoulder, put it down, the weight shifted from one side of the box to the other and slammed down on the ground. I didn’t know there was a hair line crack in the suction housing until it was all installed and it wouldn’t build up suction. Drove me crazy for hours trying to figure out why the pump wouldn’t prime. Then I sprayed water on the suction housing and saw where water was being sucked into the crack. I packed it up, sent it back for a refund and ordered anonymity one. The new one works great and I’m happy with the pump. Disappointed with the shipping.
