Advantage Adjustable 11-Inch Hitch Extension

I have over sized tires on my Jeep Wrangler so when I tried to use my Thule hitch rack, I was unable to release it to get into the back. The rack actually hit the tire and I was unable to move it out of the way. This product solved that problem. It is heavy duty--much heavier than I expected. I installed it in my hitch using the the second hole so I had to move the anti-wobble piece with a chisel and a rubber mallet. I purchased the Heninger 6001 Advantage SportsRack Threaded Hitch Lock so that the hitch extension could not be stolen. This is also a great product. I had to put a light grease on the bolt and it went in easily. I also had to put some light grease on the bike rack so it slid into the hitch extension easily. I'm using the outer most hole for the bike rack which gives me about 8.5" of extension. The product is made well and it does not wobble thanks to the anti-wobble piece. I highly recommend this product to extend the hitch for use with bicycle racks.

So far I love it! Gave me just the space I needed between the bumper of my vehicle and the tray on the back so that me and my Malinois can get in and out of the rear deck area easily. Almost perfect. My only wish is that I could use it at less than 11" but unfortunately if I try to slide it into my hitch more it gets stopped at the place where the neck gets smaller and my existing hitch's hole doesn't line up by about 1/2"; I could cut the end off of my existing one I guess so that I could slide it in further but it's fine the 11" gives me plenty of space. I do not haul anything with this though; I just have one of those cargo trays on the back. Seems very sturdy and well built so I am sure it would suffice for towing.

We bought this product, because the description stated "Heininger Advantage Hitch Extensions are designed to extend the receiver hitch up to 11 inches". We found that when the bike rack was attached the extender could only be fixed at the full extension length of 11 inches for the holes to match up. Not a huge problem, but if you are looking for flexibility you might find this item not as flexible as you hoped, given the description and the drawing showing measurements in the Amazon description. This is the only reason we gave 4 stars not 5 stars.Otherwise, it does a fine job of extending the hitch for our bike rack. We like the no wobble gizmo included, the extender fits very firmly into the vehicle hitch.We have a 2 inch hitch so have to use the adapter provided with our bike rack, there was no wobble directly to our own hitch, but with this extender there is a little side to side wobble between the bike rack and the extender.The welds are tidy and there was no missing paint or scratches on the one we received. It is packaged in its own box, then double boxed for shipping.As others have stated, this hitch should NOT be used for towing, but is an excellent choice for extending your hitch out to miss your spare tire. We have a Swagman XTC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (1.25 and 2-Inch Receiver) which in our opinion is an excellent rack to carry two bicycles on the back of a vehicle, both the bicycle wheels sit in wells on the platform and are also fixed with rubber straps. There is also a push button ratchet arm for the frame and the bicycles appear very stable. Be careful the ratchet arm does not pinch any cables on the frame when tightening it down.

I bought a Swagman XC-4 Cross-Country 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver Hitch), which is a very sturdy rack that had no wobble to it when directly inserted into my receiver. However, I have a rear mounted spare tire and this rack would not fold up because it would hit the spare tire. I bought this extension after trying another one that I picked up a local hardware store. This extension in comparison to the other one I tried revealed that there really wasn't any comparison for what I was using it for.As I mentioned I bought a sturdy rack that did wobble or sway when attached. However, it did wobble and sway with the generic extension. It would wobble left and right and bounce up and down. It also was a 12" and really made the rack stick out. The Heininger 6000 Advantage Adjustable 11-Inch Hitch Extension on the other hand worked great. It does not wobble or bounce. It does not stick out as far as the other extension. My bike rack is sturdy again with this extension. This extension worked perfectly and I am very happy with my purchase.The bottom line is that I would recommend this extension to anyone who has the need to extend their bike rack for any reason.

I purchased the Heininger 6000 extension and 6001 threaded hitch lock at the same time. I have not test drove it yet, but it seems to accomplish what I wanted. My bike rack now fits on my Wrangler with room to spare clearing the 12.5in wide spare on the back. I really like having more than one pin location.I was not sure if the lock thread would fit with the extension, but it does. Despite the very little clearance available around my hitch, I did get it to fit and lock. I had to insert it from the left as the hitch wire harness connection interfered with the lock when inserted from the right. I also discovered that the hitch lock on my 2in receiver Yakima rack fits the same threads as well. I may have purchased another one of these instead had I known. It would be nice to just have one key for everything.The only downside I encountered was that 6001 and 6000 were not in stock together, meaning I had to pay for shipping on both from two different Amazon affiliates.

Fit to my JD Gator perfectly! This allows me to keep the tail gate down (with 2" to spare) so I can easily switch from the boomless spray to manual spraying! My life just got so much better!

Had trouble finding a hitch extension with multiple holes so length could be adjusted properly to attach my platform bike rack on rear of travel trailer. Found this item online at Amazon and it's done the job. Sturdy and well made. I wasn't completely comfortable with their retaining screw that doesn't go through the other side of the hitch, but found that a Swagman bike rack bolt worked well so I used that and bought another bolt for the bike rack. Hitch extension comes with a rattle reducing insert, which is nice. Need to maneuver it into the area you want it by inserting a 1 X 1 piece of wood and whacking the end of the board with a hammer to move the insert frontwards or backwards.

This hitch extension is "adjustable" because it has two holes on the "male" end of the receiver, and two holes on the "female" end. Depending on how you insert this extension into your vehicle (hole one or two), and how you insert your bike rack or whatever else into the "female" end (hole one or two), there is some adjustment on how much extension you achieve. In theory.I was hoping to use the SMALLEST amount of extension with this so that I'd achieve about 7" of extension. I needed to extend my Thule T2 bike rack just enough to clear a larger-than-factory Jeep tire.i am able to use the hole that positions this extension furthest into my Jeep (so the "male" of this extension is adjustable). Unfortunately, I was not able to utilize the deepest hole in the "female" end of this extension because there is only about 2" of space between that deeper hole and an internal ridge where the inside square bar is welded to the outside square bar. Hard to describe, but essentially my Thule bike rack it the back of this extension before the holes lined up with the deepest hole in this extension.So.. I suppose you could blame that on my bike rack? In hind sight though, I wouldn't trust any bike rack that only had that little amount of metal behind the holes--just not enough there to handle the load. No.. I think that this extension could have been better designed to just have ONE hole on the "female" end, but position it somewhat in-between the two that it currently has. I doubt that there are many racks out there that could utilize the deepest hole in this extension's "female" side...One additional comment.. I read some reviews that criticized the welds. I am not a welder, but in my observation, the welds seem smooth and uniform all the way around this. I must say that the metal is a little thin compared to other extensions that I've seen. I think it's quite fine for any 2-bike rack out there, and I'm using it for that. When I set up to carry 4-bikes, I do worry that this may snap though, and I am pursuing another extension for that reason.Conclusion: If you are only carrying 2 bikes, and you are happy with the extension possibilities IGNORING the deepest hole in the "female" part of this extension, I recommend it. The price is reasonable and the integrated locking bolt is really nice (especially if you buy their optional locking bolt.)If you want a very short extension, this probably won't work.If you plan to carry 4 bikes, I don't know if this is strong enough. I'm using it for that occasionally, but I'm a little worried about it...

This was exactly as described. However, I forgot that the shortest distance between holes is actually smaller because the inner part of the square overlaps to be welded and the Kuat bike rack insert needed to go half an inch further in so I couldn't use it. May still come in handy for something else.
